Suspect in Congress legislator's murder surrenders

By: IANS

The prime suspect in the murder of Congress legislator Makhanlal Jatav from Madhya Pradesh's Gohad constituency has surrendered at Gwalior, police said on Saturday.

"With the surrender of prime accused Pappu Pandit late on Friday night, we expect to solve the case soon. He is suspected to be the mastermind of the murder," said Inspector General (Chambal Range) Arvind Kumar.

Pandit surrendered before the inspector general and was handed over to the Bhind district police that were interrogating him.

Jatav was shot from point blank range late on Monday evening by four men near Chharetav village in Bhind district, around 550 km from here, when he was returning after canvassing for Bhagirath Prasad, Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Bhind.

The police on Tuesday arrested Narayan Sharma and Sheru Kaurav from Barahed village of Bhind district for their suspected involvement in the murder.

The Congress has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the legislator's murder.
