Double security checks, two-hour delay, but crowds lap up Modi's speech
Politicians are usually fashionably late, and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi proved this last evening as he arrived two hours late to address a packed audience at the Vidya Bhavan School ground in Ghatkopar.
The crowd was listless after going through a security check twice and listening to a host of BJP leaders. They were miffed, as media crew often blocked their view and upset, as Atal Behari Vajapayee's picture was missing from the banner. And, of course, the wait for Modi. But, they seemed to forget it all as Modi took centrestage and cheered the audience with his one-liners. The one that had the crowds hooting: As Modi decided to take a second's break to sip on water while taking a dig at the Congress he said, "Kal ke paper mein mat chaap dena ki Modi paani pee pee kar Congress ko peet raha tha." Keeping the trend going, the Gujarat CM did not spare the PM for his inability to tackle terrorism.
For the 45 minutes that he spoke, Modi had the audience hooked. He then paused and asked the audience if they wanted to hear more or were hungry and wanted to leave. In unison came a reply, "No!" Truly, yeh dil maange more. |
