Mumbai:

Areas: Goregaon, Dindoshi, Jogeshwari (E), Andheri (E), Andheri (W) and Versova. Earlier the constituency included areas like Bandra, Kherwadi, Santacruz, Vile Parle, Andheri and Amboli.

History: The constituency has been divided and parts of it have now been included in Mumbai North-Central. The present constituency comprises some parts of Mumbai North also.

Biggies: There are a large number of aspirants in the Congress, NCP and the Samajwadi Party. Priya Dutt, who now wants to contest from the Mumbai North Central constituency, earlier, represented this constituency.
Abu Azmi from the Samajwadi Party has already declared his intention to contest the seat, while actress Nagma, Sanjay Nirupam, Kripashankar Singh are some of the aspirants from the Congress. The NCP has aspirants like Nawab Malik and Abhiram Singh.
The Shiv Sena may nominate Gajanan Kirtikar, who is a former minister and an MLA.
There are a large number of Maharashtrian voters as well as Muslim and north Indian voters here. The secular parties are banking on the North Indian and Muslim voters, while the Saffron alliance will depend on the strong Marathi, Gujarati and Marwari vote bank. An MNS candidate will also make his presence felt by cutting into the Marathi votes. The Congress may leave the seat to its alliance partner NCP, while the NCP may leave the seat for the Samajwadi party.

Size of voter base: 15,93,514

Who: Maharashtrians, Muslims and North Indians.

Strengths: Aspirants such as Gajanan Kirtikar, Sanjay Nirupam and Kripashankar Singh may have their own pockets of influence, but no single candidate has a complete hold on the constituency.
The Congress has two MLAs in the present constituency, as does the Shiv Sena. Although the general observations may be in favour of the secular alliance, the saffron alliance will put up a tough fight.

Tea-leaf reading: No party emerges stronger, both alliances will have a tough time.
