Delhi:

Portal launched to offer commuters real-time information on traffic situation at important campaign venues and major roads in Capital

Political parties have already sounded the poll bugle and the election heat is building in the Capital. In the next few weeks, expect rallies with large crowds and traffic chaos. But there is help at hand. A Delhi-based traffic solution provider has launched an online service to help Delhiites avoid road snarls.

The Traffic People is claiming to offer real-time traffic updates from all across the city. The company claims its website http://www.thetrafficpeople.net/ will monitor important junctions and major roads of Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida and Ghaziabad.

The online traffic update will be provided at peak hours from 7.30 am to 11 am and 5 pm to 9 pm every day. Users will be warned in advance about rallies, processions and accidents which slow down traffic during rush hours.

"We have successfully completed the trial for real-time traffic update. It was started in November last year. Now, people can avail the service free of cost. One can also subscribe to SMS alerts," said Shailesh Sinha, founder-director of the website.

A special team, trained in various traffic-related issues, has been prepared to make the service successful. "The team members alert the control room which uploads the information on the website and sends out SMS alerts to subscribers. We have also tied up with the Delhi traffic police to help commuters," Sinha said.

The company, which claims the entire process of uploading information takes less than five minutes, has
been providing traffic information for the past eight years to news channels, FM radio stations and customers who have subscribed for message alerts.

"Currently, we will only be offering real-time information on traffic jams on our website. But as the General Elections near, we plan to provide alternate routes as well," Sinha said.
