New Delhi:

A day after withdrawing his bail plea in the Delhi High Court in a case of hate speech, BJP leader Varun Gandhi left for Pilibhit, from where he is contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, early today. He is likely to court arrest there.

"Varun Gandhi left for Pilibhit early this morning and is expected to court arrest there by 11 am," his office revealed.

Even though Varun's camp is expected to draw political mileage from the issue, the party's leadership seems to be averse to the idea. Meanwhile, the leadership has sent the party's incharge of polls for Uttar Pradesh, Kalraj Mishra, to Pilibhit to monitor the situation closely.

The estranged Nehru-Gandhi scion, who is making an electoral debut from Pilibhit, came in the limelight after his alleged anti-communal speeches in Uttar Pradesh's Pilibhit constituency, a seat represented by his mother Maneka Gandhi so far.

Following this, an FIR was lodged against Varun in Pilibhit on the direction of election authorities after CDs containing his anti-Muslim speeches surfaced. Varun's anticipatory bail granted by the Delhi High Court also expired yesterday.
