Lucknow: Lucknow University has slapped a show cause notice on a professor for inviting Bollywood star and SP nominee from here Sanjay Dutt at his bungalow in the varsity campus.
"As campaigning and visits by politicians in university premises are banned, we have served a show cause notice to professor PN Tondon of Botany department. We have asked why he invited Dutt without prior permission of the university administration," a senior university official said.
Dutt visited Tondon's house on March 29 where students pelted stones at his cavalcade after they failed to meet him and take his autograph. Though the professor has termed the visit as personal, saying Dutt was a friend of his son, who also works in Bollywood, the university was not convinced with the explanation and served him a notice, sources said.
Meanwhile, the district administration is probing opposition's allegation that Dutt violated model code of conduct by visiting the campus without prior permission.
"The incident has come to our notice and we are probing it," a district administration officer said.
Earlier, Dutt was served a notice by the administration for visiting National PG College while examinations were on there. A report has been sent to the Election Commission in this regard.
