Should you dump a young guy for an older man?

By: Melissa D'costa

A new poll conducted in the UK has revealed that a majority of men do not embrace romance until they are well into their fifties. However, the moment they turn 53, they can beat the swaggering youngster at his own game, especially when it comes to showering their partners with love.

So, does age really dictate your romantic quotient? No way, says actor Kabir Bedi. "Age has nothing to do with how romantic an individual is. When you love someone, you want them to feel good, wanted. Romantic gestures are a way of expressing your feelings, and that does not depend on how old you are," he explains.

Men fall in love faster, and alter life for spouse

Who is the more romantic of the two sexes? Psychological data says men are more romantic than women! We say, you decide

>>Men fall in love faster, are more dependent on their girlfriends or wives because they have fewer close friends and fewer ties to family.
>>Men remarry, and are more likely to kill themselves when a relationship ends. Men even alter their daily schedule more regularly, waiting for a woman to call or write. And new data indicates that men are more eager to marry, and are happier in their marriages.
>>Scientists, on the other hand, believe that women are somewhat more cautious about entering a relationship, and sustaining it. But it's the woman who will carry the baby for nine months, and do the majority of daily childcare chores during its infancy.
>>Women seem to express romantic feelings more regularly than men. They buy and send more greeting cards. They arrange the social schedule, including birthday parties and anniversary events. Women are better at remembering the history of the relationship, so they are good at reminiscing.

Kabir Bedi tells you how to get it right

>Agree to disagree: Sometimes, small arguments lead to major fights, with each partner trying to prove he/she's right. Instead, it's better to agree to disagree, and resolve a conflict before it leads to a major confrontation.
>Watch your tone of voice: Don't take each other for granted and don't disrespect your partner. Avoid yelling and shouting. Try settling an argument with a cool head.
>Surprise each other: Small gestures are the best way to tell your partner you love and care for them. Depending on your partner's likes and dislikes, plan an evening out or at home. Surprise them; it's the best way to say "I love you".

Age has nothing to do with how romantic you are as a person feels actor Kabir bedi, 62, who is dating a young London based girl,  Parveen Dusanj

How Carla Bruni got it right

French President Nicolas Sarkozy's wife Carla Bruni got her calculations right when she married her 53 year-old beau. The UK survey that took a poll of 2,000 men aged 18 to 65, found that most of them have recently surprised their partner with champagne on ice, while more than 1 in 4 wrote their partner a poem.

Elderly men were more likely to surprise women with flowers and chocolates, as compared to men half their age.
Experience helps a man gather the nerve to take the plunge

Dr Hitesh Shah, Relationship and wellness expert

It's not age that attracts women to older men. It depends on three factors:

Experience: At 53, men have had decades to work on their act, and are ready to take the plunge.

Money: Men are financially stable, so, they can afford to shower their partners with gifts.

No inhibitions: At that stage in their lives, they are comfortable with expressing their feelings and emotions uninhibitedly.
