The air quality in Delhi remained in the ‘poor’ category as per SAFAR on October 27. Delhi Minister Atishi on mentioned that there has not been any data that can tell the sources lead to what amounts to the severe pollution in the National Capital. However, in 2020, Atishi revealed the data claiming that the pollution in Delhi is directly correlated with stubble burning in Haryana and Punjab. Preparations are underway to burn the 171-foot tall effigy of Ravana at Shalimar ground in Haryana’s Panchkula ahead of the Dussehra celebrations on October 23. The 171-foot-tall effigy of Ravana has been built at a cost of Rs 18 lakh. It took about 3 months and around 25-30 labourers to build the effigy. Notably, Dussehra falls on October 24 this year. The festival marks the victory of good over evil.

Rampant garbage burning along the highways in Mumbai, Thane & Raigad is posing a huge threat to people's health. A survey by the Awaaz Foundation at some of these sites has found that pollution levels had a direct co-relation with the size of the garbage dump being burnt. A Dalit woman has been burnt alive in Bihar's Gaya district by the upper caste Yadav landowners. Her family alleges that the accused, Subedar Yadav - a former block pramukh - and his two nephews Yogesh and Mukesh, had promised them a house under the Indira Awas Yojana.
