Bus and truck drivers on Jan 01, held protests across several states of India against the new hit-and-run law. This triggered difficulty for commuters travelling to different places. Private bus and truck drivers on January 01, enforced a 'chakka jam' across Haryana. Members of an organisation representing the drivers also staged a protest on the streets of Bhopal at the Board Office intersection. A similar protest also broke out in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur, where bus drivers staged a demonstration against the new central law. With the buses anchored in their sheds, regular commuters and interstate passengers bore the brunt of the protests. The ongoing strike has impacted the movement of thousands of vehicles across the protesting states. Notably, the new central law attracts a 7-10-year prison sentence for drivers falling foul of it.
