One of the largest operations carried out by security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker in which 29 Naxalites were gunned down and huge quantities of arms and ammunition were also recovered. On the Kanker encounter, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, "Yesterday, security forces achieved great success in Chhattisgarh. Ever since Modi ji became the Prime Minister, the BJP government has launched a continuous campaign against Naxalism and terrorism.” IG Bastar P Sundarraj said, "Yesterday, an encounter broke out between security forces and Naxalites which lasted for around 4 hours. Teams of DRG and BSF cordoned off the area and as a result, 29 bodies of CPI Maoists were recovered, out of which 15 were female and 14 were male. Arms and ammunition were recovered in large quantities from the spot. The autopsy of bodies of the Maoists are underway."

In a massive success, security force officials foiled a major conspiracy to disrupt peace in Chhatisgarh’s Kanker, days ahead of LS Polls. In a high-voltage encounter with Naxals, security forces killed at least 29 Maoists in the region. As per police, 3 jawans were also injured during the exchange of fire and were shifted to a higher centre for better treatment. The lone surviving brother from the tragic Budaun double murder incident, which occurred on March 20 in Baba Colony, shared his horrific experience. He said, "The individual from the salon arrived here. He escorted my brothers upstairs, but I'm unsure why he harmed them. He also attempted to assault me, but I managed to fend off his knife, pushed him away, and fled downstairs. Consequently, I sustained injuries to my hand and head... Two individuals (the accused) had visited here."Meanwhile in a new update on the Budaun double murder case, Bareilly IG Rakesh Kumar said that the accused fired at the police and was killed in retaliatory fire. He further said, “Today evening an unfortunate incident took place. The police reached the spot and the accused tried to escape. The accused fired at the police and was killed in retaliatory fire. The accused died on the spot. The accused is aged between 25-30.”

The Indian Navy once again displayed its heroics and intercepted a ship hijacked by Somali pirates. From a Indian Navy vs Somali Pirates scenario, Navy shared a video of its encounter with Somali pirates who were using a hijacked merchant vessel. The Indian Navy thwarted designs of Somali pirates to hijack ships plying through the region by intercepting ex-MV Ruen. The navy intercepted the hijacked ex-MV Ruen which was reported to have sailed out as a pirate ship on high seas. The vessel opened fire on the warship and the Indian Navy retaliated to neutralise the pirates. The pirates onboard the vessel were called upon to surrender and release the vessel. In recent times, Indian Navy has proved its mettle by averting piracy bids in high seas.

The Ministry of Home Affairs on Jan 29 extended the ban on the Students Islamic Movement of India. The Central Government banned SIMI for another five years as an 'unlawful association' under the UAPA. Ministry of Home Affairs took action by exercising the powers conferred by the provisions of UAPA. MHA had declared SIMI as unlawful association on Sept 27, 2001, and it later kept on extending the ban. SIMI “continuing to be involved in fomenting terrorism, disturbing peace, communal harmony in India”. Many criminal cases have been registered against SIMI and its members under various sections of IPC. Home Minister Amit Shah said that SIMI ban is part of PM Modi Government's 'zero tolerance' policy.

Another terrorist attack in Jammu & Kashmir’s Baramulla has jolted the valley. Some terrorists on Dec 24 opened fire at a retired police officer at Gantmulla in Baramulla. Notably, this J&K terror attack happened a day after an attack on two military vehicles in Rajouri sector which claimed lives of four soldiers. The slain former police officer was identified as Mohd. Shafi, according to Jammu and Kashmir Police. Terrorists opened fire on the retired police officer while he was offering prayers at a mosque, the police added. The area was cordoned off in the immediate aftermath of the incident, officials said. Meanwhile, additional security forces have been deployed in the Bafliaz area of Poonch district. An operation is underway to nab terrorists in the forest area of Dera ki Gali in the Rajouri sector. Indian Army said that it was conducting an inquiry into the deaths of three civilians in the Poonch-Rajouri sector in the terror attack on Dec 21.
