The Indian men's hockey team dethroned 2018 gold medallist Japan in the men's hockey event on Friday and qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024 by claiming their fourth gold medal in the Asian Games. The Indian team continued to do wonders since the arrival of head coach Craig Fulton as they remained unbeaten throughout the event and defeated Japan by 5-1 in the 19th Asian Games. Both teams kicked off the final on equal preceedings as Japan and India looked to breach each other's defence and break the stalemate. Skipper Harmanpreet Singh looking to showcase his prowess in the penalty corner failed to get past the keeper in the 15th minute.The first quarter ended goalless. India drew the first blood in the second quarter with Manpreet scoring a goal with a reverse hit in the 25th minute of the game Former Indian Hockey player Ashok Kumar said that it is a proud moment that India won a gold medal in Hockey at the Asian Games 2023. He said, “Indian Hockey has created its dominance in Asian Games by winning a medal...It is a huge victory for Indian Hockey...It is a proud moment for all of us...I want to congratulate the team on this win.”

In the Asian Games, the Indian team of Anush Agarwalla, Hriday Vipul, Divyakriti, and Sudipti Hajela on September 26 created history by clinching a historic gold medal after registering a huge score of 209.205 in the Team Dressage in the ongoing 19th Asian Games. This is India's first-ever gold in this event at the Asian Games and their first gold medal in Equestrian after 41 years. Neeraj Chopra created history on Aug 28 as he bagged gold at the World Athletics Championships in Hungary's Budapest. With this, Chopra became the first Indian to win a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships. Celebrations started in the Olympic champion’s village in Haryana’s Panipat soon his historic achievement. Neeraj recorded his best javelin throw of 88.17 m in his 2nd attempt and managed to keep his lead intact till the very end. Ace Indian athlete Dutee Chand, the current national 100 m record holder, has received a four-year ban from the National Anti-Doping Agency for failing an out-of-competition doping test for Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (SARMs) in December last year. Reacting to it, Indian sprinter Dutee Chand on August 19 appealed the state government, Central Government and NADA to spare her this time. She further added that she has given several doping tests earlier where she was never detected positive.

Sakshi Malik on Monday denied withdrawing from the ongoing wrestlers' protest against -WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. She has joined back her position in the Northern Railway. The development comes two days after the wrestlers met Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence. The meeting was held late on Saturday as the wrestlers raised their demand for WFI chief Brij Bhushan’s arrest. Satyawrat Kadian, the husband Sakshi Malik, said the wrestlers’ meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah held on Saturday was inconclusive. Bajrang Punia, another wrestler protesting in solidarity with Sakshi Malik, who has also reportedly resumed his Railway duty, also tweeted about this.

Protesting wrestlers reached Haridwar on May 30 to immerse their medals in river Ganga. as a mark of protest against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Singh over sexual harassment allegations. Meanwhile, Farmer leader Naresh Tikait arrived in Haridwar and took medals from the wrestlers and sought five-day time. Amid this, Indian Boxer and Congress leader Vijender Singh showed support to the Indian wrestlers. He appealed to the people of India to come in support of the players.
