In a big win for NIA, two suspects of the Rameshwaram Café blast were nabbed from Kolkata on April 12. Mussavir Hussain Shazib, Abdul Matheen Taha were allegedly involved in Rameshwaram Café blast. Mussavir Hussain Shazib is accused of planting the IED inside the Rameshwaram Café. On the other hand, Abdul Matheen Taha is said to be the mastermind of the attack. The NIA had declared rewards of Rs 10 lakh on each of the absconders. NIA, Central Agencies and police force of several states worked together to nab the accused. The cafe in Bengaluru's Whitefield area was jolted by a low-intensity blast on March 1. The case was handed over to the NIA on March 3, following the NIA team’s visit to the blast site. Watch video.

Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari's brother Afzal Ansari on March 30 alleged the Uttar Pradesh government of killing his brother with poison. He said that he would prove the poisoning of his brother when the time comes. "Mukhtar Ansari has been killed and removed out of the way. When the time comes, we will give strong proof that he was killed with poison... To save some criminals, the whole government and its machinery have done a huge conspiracy. They have no shame... On March 26, Mukhtar Ansari was sent to the Medical College from the Banda jail... The Superintendent said that he was sent because the doctors suggested that... We received a message at 3 am that Mukhtar Ansari's condition is serious... When we reached the hospital, we were allowed to meet with difficulty, only for 5 minutes... During the 5-minute meeting, Mukhtar Ansari said that he had been poisoned and because of that he had fainted. He said that he was in extreme pain. He said that he had fainted and shifted to the hospital in that condition," said Afzal Ansari.

While speaking to ANI, he said that Court must take strict action in the matter as Mukhtar Ansari was under the remand of the Court. “According to our Hindu mythology, it is not right to comment on the deceased. The way things came out the judicial system gave us justice. I am grateful to the judicial system for its verdict of my Brother’s murderer… Things that are coming ahead the government must investigate in the matter. If he is under the Court’s remand, then the court must take strict action in the matter,” said Ajai Rai.

The funeral procession of Mukhtar Ansari, the former gangster-turned-politician, commenced from his Mohammadabad residence amidst tight security. A large crowd gathered to bid farewell to him. Mukhtar Ansari is slated to be buried in Mohammadabad, located in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district. Police presence has been increased around the burial site to ensure law and order as mourners pay their final respects. Jailed gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari passed away on Mar 28 following a cardiac arrest. Mukhtar Ansari took his last breath at Banda Medical College Hospital in Uttar Pradesh. Following his death, people in large numbers gathered outside the politician’s residence in Ghazipur. The police also conducted a flag march and issued alerts across the state to prevent any untoward incidents following Ansari's death. Security arrangements have been beefed up in several parts of UP after the demise. However, Umar Ansari, the son of Mukhtar Ansari, alleged conspiracy in father’s death.

Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal heavily criticized the United States’ remarks on the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) during a Press Conference in Delhi on March 15, describing it as “misplaced, misinformed and unwarranted”. MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “As you are well aware, the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 is an internal matter of India and is in keeping with India's inclusive traditions and a long-standing commitment to human rights. The act grants a haven to persecuted minorities belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Parsi, and Christian communities from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh who have entered India on or before December 31, 2014. The CAA is about giving citizenship, not taking away citizenship, so this must be underlined. It addresses the issue of statelessness, provides human dignity, and supports human rights. As regards the US State Department's statement on the implementation of CAA and the comments made by several others, we are of the view that it is misplaced, misinformed, and unwarranted. India's constitution guarantees freedom of religion to all its citizens. There are no grounds for any concern or treatment of minorities. Vote bank politics should not determine views about a laudable initiative to help those in distress. Lectures by those who have a limited understanding of India's pluralistic traditions and the region's post-partition history are best not attempted. Partners and wellwishers of India should welcome the intent with which this step has been taken.”
