A robbery attempt was foiled on Monday after a Thane-based jewellery shop owner visited the shop at odd hours for some work and caught one of the accused red-handed. The incident took place at Chendani-Koliwada in the Kopri area. A gang of robbers had rented an adjacent to the jewellery shop on the pretext of setting up a farsan outlet but in six months the burglars drilled a hole in the shop's wall. On Monday around 1.30 pm, Dilip Kataria, owner of Bhawani Jewellers, visited the shop to collect something. When he opened the shop shutter, he was shocked to find a man inside the shop. He started shouting, nabbed the man and called the Thane Police Control room. Kopri cops rushed to the spot.

A thief has been caught on CCTV camera robbing a jewellery shop in Nallasopara near Mumbai in broad daylight. CCTV footage shows the thief, pretending to be a customer and entering Gaurav Jewellers. After checking out jewellery, he suddenly turns and runs away with gold chains worth nearly one and half lakh rupees. Though the shop keeper and his helper chase the thief, they are unable to catch him. The incident took place on Monday and though the thief can be clearly seen in the CCTV footage, the police have still not yet managed to detain or arrest anyone. Video courtesy: NDTV
