Sharad Pawar announces Supriya Sule, Praful Patel as NCP working presidents

Supriya Sule, daughter of NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, and NCP Vice-President Praful Patel have been declared as working presidents of the party. Sharad Pawar made the announcement at the 25th anniversary of the party, founded by him and P A Sangma in 1999. After the announcement was made, Supriya Sule said she was deeply grateful to the party, adding that she is determined to justify the trust reposed in her by the party. The Nationalist Congress Party completed 25 years today and a special event was organised in Mumbai on the occasion. Sharad Pawar had last month offered to resign from the presidency of the party, which was followed by fervent remonstrations from the party members as well as other political leaders. An NCP panel formed to deliberate on Mr Pawar's offer had on May 5 rejected his resignation and urged him to continue as the party president.

Will take final decision in 1-2 days: Sharad Pawar on his resignation

NCP workers protested after Sharad Pawar announced his resignation from the post of party president. During this, NCP chief Sharad Pawar met the workers. Sharad Pawar said, “I should have taken the decision with your consent which I haven’t taken. But I have told you the motto behind it. All the supporters from outside Maharashtra have come here to discuss with me. This meeting will be held tomorrow. Within 1-2 days a final decision will be taken considering everyone’s feelings. I assure you that no one’s feelings would get hurt. After two days you don’t have to sit here like this.”

Sharad Pawar resigns as NCP president

In a move that came as a surprise to many, veteran politician Sharad Pawar on Tuesday resigned as president of the Nationalist Congress Party, the political outfit he floated more than two decades ago. "I have decided to step down as the president of the NCP," Pawar said at a press briefing. His announcement was greeted by loud exclamations from the gathering. Pawar, however, made it clear that he was not taking a backseat from politics. "My colleagues, even though I am stepping down from the post of president, I am not retiring from public life," he said.
