Himachal Rains: '16 bodies recovered so far', NDRF personnel gives information

The rescue operations in rain-battered Shimla entered day six on August 19. Joint rescue operations are underway by NDRF, SDRF, Indian Army and local people. So far, 16 bodies, among 20 people have been recovered from the Summer Hill area of Shimla. Over 70 people have lost their lives in the hilly state of Himachal Pradesh due to the deadly monsoon. Moreover, the state has suffered a loss of more than 7,500 crores, as per the govt reports.

The death toll in the Raigad landslide in Maharashtra has risen to 22 with the recovery of six more bodies. NDRF continued search and rescue operation at Irshalgad landslide-hit area amid heavy rainfall. The mishap took place in Irshalwadi village of Khalapur Tehsil in Raigad on July 19. Meanwhile, heavy rains continued to lash Mumbai, inundating low-lying areas.

Indian Army braces for cyclone Biparjoy, prepares for landfill measures

As Cyclone Biparjoy approaches Gujarat Coast, Indian Army joined the rescue ops to safeguard citizens. With well-equipped equipments, Indian Army is all set to provide relief, and landfill measures in wake of the devastation caused by Cyclone. Cyclone Biparjoy is most likely to turn severe by June 13 and make a landfill in Kutch region of Gujarat. The flood relief columns have been rehearsed and kept ready at Bhuj, Jamnagar, Gandhidham, Dharangdhra, Vadodara and Gandhinagar as well as at forward locations at Naliya, Dwarka and Amreli.The Army authorities have also jointly planned the relief operations with civil administration as well as NDRF.

Cyclone Biparjoy: ICG Dhruv helicopter evacuates 50 personnel off Gujarat coast

In view of the intensification of cyclone Biparjoy, 50 personnel have been evacuated by the ICG. All 50 personnel were evacuated on June 13 from jack-up rig 'Key Singapore' operating off the Dwarka coast near Okha, Gujarat. The evacuation was carried out by the Indian Coast Guard’s ALH Dhruv helicopters. For precautionary measures, NDRF teams have been deployed in Gujarat’s Dwarka. Police have been deployed near the coast in Gujarat's Navsari to prevent people from venturing into the sea.

Venkatesan, a jawan with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), was the first to alert officials about the train accident involving three trains in Odisha’s Balasore. He was a passenger on the B7 coach of the ill-fated Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express, travelling to Chennai on leave. He played a crucial role in alerting emergency services about the train accident, which helped in reducing the extent of the accident. As soon as the accident occurred, he alerted his senior official and started rescuing fellow passengers as an experienced NDRF personnel. Venkatesan narrated the moment of the accident and how he helped his fellow passengers who were trapped in the coach.

Turkish Ambassador Firat Sunel said “Operation Dost showed friendship between India, Türkiye”. Turkiye FM Cavusoglu on Feb 28 arrived in Delhi to attend G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. FM Çavuşoğlu thanked India for its efforts to rescue Türkiye from the dire situation.

Fixators made by Indian Army’s Colonel Vijay Pandey are playing a vital role in providing relief to victims of quake-ravaged countries. The fixator has been made with the aim to heal patients suffering from hand fractures faster. Turkey and Syria were hit with a series of earthquakes on February 6 and 7. The death toll of both the countries has crossed 33,000 mark, as per Reuters. With aim to provide aid, India has sent 7 aircraft so far to Turkey with relief material and specialized rescue teams under ‘Operation Dost’.
