Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Interim Budget 2024-25 today. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor labelled it as one of the shortest speeches on record in the Budget and termed it disappointing. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh mentioned it as an encouraging budget and said that the government is fully confident of achieving the target of becoming a developed nation by 2047. In a major setback to Rahul Gandhi, the Gujarat high court on Friday rejected Rahul Gandhi's application seeking a stay on his conviction. A stay on conviction would have paved the way for Rahul Gandhi’s reinstatement as Lok Sabha MP. Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as a Member of Parliament from Lok Sabha, after he was convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment in March this year in the Modi-surname Defamation Case. The case relates to the remarks about the Modi surname during a rally in 2019 while campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka.
