As Ramadan comes to an end, Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations kick in across the country. Muslims across the country gathered at religious places to offer Eid prayers. An air of festivity and celebration was palpable at Delhi’s iconic Jama Masjid on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. Devotees filled the Jama Masjid in bright attires on April 11 to offer prayers on Eid. In Mumbai, devotees gathered at Mahim Masjid to offer ‘namaz’ on Eid-ul-Fitr. Devotees in MP’s Bhopal offered Eid prayers at Eidgah with family and friends. Eidgah in Assam’s Guwahati witnessed a large number of devotees on the occasion of revered Eid. Eid ul-Fitr is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The festival is of great significance due to the moon sighting which has been part of Islamic culture for a long time. It is believed that Prophet Muhammad used to wait for news of sightings of the crescent moon as it indicated the beginning of a new month.

Actor-turned-politician, BJP candidate Kangana Ranaut offered prayers at revered deity Baba Bhootnath temple of Mandi, on April 01. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first Hindu Temple of Middle East in Abu Dhabi on February 14. Upon his arrival at the temple, PM Modi was welcomed by BAPS priests. PM also offered prayers at the temple and offered performed aarti. The temple was inaugurated on the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchmi. The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir of Abu Dhabi has been built by BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha. Notably, much before this PM Modi UAE visit, PM Modi had launched the project for the construction of the Temple in 2015. In 2018, the PM unveiled a model of the traditional stone temple as well. The Temple is a reflection of the graciousness of Govt of UAE, which has gifted 17 acres of land to it.

Another terrorist attack in Jammu & Kashmir’s Baramulla has jolted the valley. Some terrorists on Dec 24 opened fire at a retired police officer at Gantmulla in Baramulla. Notably, this J&K terror attack happened a day after an attack on two military vehicles in Rajouri sector which claimed lives of four soldiers. The slain former police officer was identified as Mohd. Shafi, according to Jammu and Kashmir Police. Terrorists opened fire on the retired police officer while he was offering prayers at a mosque, the police added. The area was cordoned off in the immediate aftermath of the incident, officials said. Meanwhile, additional security forces have been deployed in the Bafliaz area of Poonch district. An operation is underway to nab terrorists in the forest area of Dera ki Gali in the Rajouri sector. Indian Army said that it was conducting an inquiry into the deaths of three civilians in the Poonch-Rajouri sector in the terror attack on Dec 21.
