Haldwani Violence: Eyewitness, victim recounts horrific incident that claimed 4 lives
09 February,2024 12:54 PM IST | MumbaiSecurity has been stepped up in Banbhoolpura area of Uttarakhand’s Haldwani after violence broke out. An anti-encroachment drive was carried out on February 08 after which violence broke out in the area. So far, 4 persons killed, and over 100 policemen sustained injuries in the Haldwani violence. Four companies of paramilitary forces were rushed to the city to maintain the law and order situation. District Magistrate has imposed a curfew in Banbhoolpura and issued shoot-at-sight orders. Many vehicles including cars, motorcycles were set ablaze during the violence on February 08. Internet Services have been suspended and educational institutions have been closed in the district. Uttarakhand Police has also requested the Home Ministry to send additional paramilitary forces. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami urged locals to maintain the law and order in district.
09 February,2024 10:47 AM IST | MumbaiAs the Uniform Civil Code Bill is to be tabled in the state legislative Assembly on February 06, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami left from his residence in Dehradun with a copy of the Indian Constitution. CM Dhami will present the Uniform Civil Code Uttarakhand 2024 Bill in the State Assembly today. The bill will be tabled during the ongoing four-day special session of the assembly, which began on February 05. On February 04, the Uttarakhand Cabinet approved the final draft of the UCC, which proposes uniform civil laws for all communities in the state. When the bill becomes law, it will replace the personal religious laws that govern marriage, divorce, inheritance etc.

In a landmark decision, the Uttarakhand cabinet approved a draft report related to UCC on February 04. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the UCC bill will be tabled in the upcoming Assembly session. The Uniform Civil Code proposes uniform civil laws for all communities in the state of Uttarakhand. If implemented, Uttarakhand will become the first Indian state to adopt UCC after independence. UCC will provide a legal framework for uniform marriage, divorce, land for all citizens, irrespective of their religion. The passage of UCC bill will mark fulfillment of a major poll promise made by BJP to the people of the state.
05 February,2024 12:07 PM ISTSlow subsidence up to 9 cm is recorded in Joshimath town over a period of seven months, between April and November 2022, according to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) satellite-based report. National Remote Sensing Centre, ISRO said several reports over the last few days highlighted the subsidence occurring in Joshimath. ISRO, in its observation, said, "Slow subsidence up to 9 cm within the Joshimath town is recorded over a period of 7 months, between April and November 2022. Between December 27, 2022, and January 8, 2023 a rapid subsidence event was triggered. "The region subsided around 5 cm within a span of a few days and the real extent of subsidence has also increased.
