Dheeraj Sahu IT Raids: PM Modi attacks Congress after huge cash unearthed

Income Tax sleuths have recovered more than Rs 200 crore cash in the Dheeraj Sahu IT Raids from several locations in Odisha and Jharkhand. Now, PM Modi took a jibe at Congress and said, “Who needs 'Money Heist' fiction, when Congress is there.” Prime Minister Modi further said, “Congress Party’s heists are legendary for 70 years and counting.” “In India, who needs 'Money Heist' fiction, when you have the Congress Party, whose heists are legendary for 70 years and counting!” However, after facing heat, Congress on Dec 09 said that the party is in no way connected with the businesses. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that Dheeraj Sahu can explain the huge amounts of cash. "The Indian National Congress is in no way connected with the businesses of Dheeraj Sahu, MP. Only he can explain, and should explain, how huge amounts of cash have been reportedly unearthed by the income-tax authorities from his properties." Bharatiya Janata Party is leaving no stone unturned to attack the INDIA bloc, Congress over the incident.

Delhi Police raid NewsClick journalists' homes amid China funding row

Raids at different premises allegedly linked to NewsClick are underway at over 30 locations by Delhi Police. NewsClick journalists were seen with Delhi Police Special Cell officials. However, no arrest has been made as of now. Documents and electronics belonging to the persons associated with NewsClick were seized. Delhi High Court, on Aug 22, issued notice to NewsClick's Editor-in-Chief Prabir Purkayastha on a plea filed by Delhi Police's EOW. According to the FIR, a case was registered under UAPA and other IPC sections and an investigation was launched. During the probe, the sleuths gathered evidence indicating criminal acts. FIR states that accused persons, in conspiracy with their accomplices based abroad, devised a deceitful scheme to obtain, and receive funds. As per the same FIR, these funds were used to undertake activities as per instructions received from their foreign-based benefactors. Earlier, ED also moved the Delhi High Court against NewsClick and its editor-in-chief through a fresh application. ED’s application stated that it was a case of grave criminal conspiracy for paid news. Mumbai Police officials reached activist Teesta Setalvad's residence in the same matter. Union I&B Minister Anurag Thakur reacted to the same and said, “search agencies are free to carry out investigations against wrongdoers”.

In a massive move against some big Bollywood personalities, Income Tax Department officials carried out raids on 3rd March at the premises of filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, actor Taapsee Pannu and filmmaker Vikas Bahl in Mumbai, over alleged tax evasion, as per reports. A source revealed that multiple teams of the agency’s sleuths were allegedly carrying out searches at over 22 locations in Mumbai and Pune, including premises linked to producer Madhu Mantena, popular celebrity management agencies KWAN and Exceed, as well as several other places, including the premises of Kashyap, Bahl, Mantena and Vikramaditya Motwane’s former production house Phantom Films.
