Home voting in Rajasthan for the first phase of Lok Sabha election 2024 starts

The Home Voting for first phase of Lok Sabha election began in Rajasthan on April 5. The home voting facility announced by Election Commission of India has been extended to senior citizens above 85 years of age and voters with over 40 percent disability. In Jaipur Lok Sabha constituency, a total of 3,632 eligible voters, including 3,134 voters above 85 years of age and 498 voters with more than 40 percent disability, have applied for home voting facility. In Jaipur Rural Lok Sabha constituency, a total of 3, 971 eligible voters, including 3,130 voters above 85 years of age and 841 voters with more than 40 percent disability, have applied for home voting facility. In the first phase home voting facility will be provided till April 13 from morning 7 AM to 6 PM. Under the second phase home voting facility will be provided for absentee voters on 15th April and 16th April. Special polling teams have been assigned for Home voting facility. Each polling team includes two polling officers, one micro observer, one policeman and one videographer.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Several congress leaders & MLA's join BJP in Rajasthan

Ahead of Lok Sabha elections, several Congress leaders joined BJP in Rajasthan in the presence of state CM Bhajanlal Sharma on March 10. Rajasthan Deputy CM Diya Kumari and state BJP president CP Joshi were also present. Leaders who joined BJP include former Congress minister Lalchand Kataria, former state home minister Rajendra Yadav, ex-MLAs Richpal Mirdha, Vijaipal Mirdha, Khiladilal Bairwa, Aloke Beniwal, and leaders like Ramgopal Sharma.While addressing the event, Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma said, “I welcome those who have joined us today, witnessing Narendra Modi’s work and the trust in the BJP, based on our thoughts.” Watch video.

Security was beefed up in and around the polling station to avoid any chaos The polling in 199 out of 200 constituencies will continue till 6 pm. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 10 dedicated and laid foundation stone of several infrastructure projects in Nathdwara. Will Not Contest Congress President Polls, Says Ashok Gehlot

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday said that he will not fight for the post of Congress chief. His remarks came after the veteran leader met with party's interim chief Sonia Gandhi at her residence at 10 Janpath in the national capital. "I met Rahul Gandhi in Kochi and requested him to fight the polls (for Congress President). When he didn't accept, I said I'll contest but now with that incident (political crisis in Rajasthan), I have decided not to contest the elections," CM Gehlot said. Gehlot also apologised for the ruckus in Rajasthan triggered by his loyalists over a possible leadership change in the state after Gehlot was set to file his nomination papers for the Congress chief polls.
