Union government has constituted a ‘One Nation, One Election’ Committee on September 1. The committee has been formed under the chairmanship of former President Ram Nath Kovind. Committee will explore the possibility which envisages holding of general, states polls simultaneously. CEC Rajiv Kumar said that EC is ready to conduct elections as per legal provisions. Earlier, AIMIM Chief Owaisi rejected the possibility of ‘One Election’ Bill and called it “unconstitutional”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on several occasions pitched the idea of One Nation, One Election.

As the date for lift-off nears for India’s first solar mission ‘Aditya-L1’, ISRO shared photos of satellite. The satellite arrived at Sathish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota from U R Rao Satellite Centre in Bengaluru. ‘Aditya-L1’, India’s first solar mission is a space-based Indian observatory to study the Sun. ISRO is set to launch the ‘Aditya-L1’ mission to the sun on August 26 from PSLV-XL rocket. Initially, spacecraft will be placed in a low earth orbit; subsequently, using an on-board propulsion system, spacecraft will be put in Lagrange point L1. Spacecraft will carry 7 payloads to observe the photosphere, chromosphere and the outermost layers of the Sun. The total travel time from launch to L1 would take about four months for ‘Aditya-L1’.

It was only a few days back that the leaders of 26 Opposition political parties from across India joined hands to form the INDIA coalition — the Indian National Developmental, Inclusive Alliance to challenge the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the BJP, in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. However, cracks have already started appearing in the ‘INDIA’ alliance of the opposition parties. Punjab Congress seems to be ‘unhappy’ with Congress joining hands with Aam Aadmi Party. Punjab LoP Partap Singh Bajwa outrightly rejected the idea of stitching an alliance with AAP in the Punjab 2024 Parliamentary elections. On the other hand, AAP’s Spokesperson in Punjab, Malvinder Kang said that the alliance has been formed in the national interest.

Jammu and Kashmir is all set to host the 3rd G20 Tourism Working Group meeting. All necessary preparations and high-security arrangements have been put in place in Srinagar. The third G20 tourism working group meeting is scheduled to start on May 22 and will take place till May 24. This is the first major international event after the abrogation of Article 370, 35A in J&K. Kashmir is under a three-tier security grid for aerial surveillance drone monitoring is put in place. NSG, MARCOS commandos are being deployed around the venue of G20 Summit in Srinagar.
