Atmanirbhar Bharat Not To Be Misunderstood As Protectionist Measure: FM Nirmala

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on March 04 attended a panel discussion at Raisina Dialogue 2023. While talking about the economic strategy of the Modi Government, Nirmala Sitharaman made a clear statement that there is no contradiction between the two policies of internationalisation and Atmanirbhar Bharat. “There is no contradiction at all. Atmanirbhar Bharat when it was announced was a reformed measure, where the country's foreign exchange should be spent for imports which are so required for your manufacturing as raw material or as an intermediary. We will still continue to import. There are no duties levied on them. But we have stopped goods which are flooding the market,” said Nirmala Sitharaman. “Atmanirbhar Bharat is not to be misunderstood as a protectionist measure. It was protectionist to the extent that if you have consumer goods, which are finer products and manufactured in India, I need to save those units,” she further added. #NirmalaSitharaman #Athmanirbharbharat #RaisinaDialogue
