Four Colombian children survive the Amazon jungle for weeks after plane crash

Four children have been found alive in Colombia's Amazon jungle after surviving a plane crash and spending 40 days fending for themselves in the jungle. The siblings were rescued by the military near the border between Colombia's Caqueta and Guaviare provinces. Rescuers, supported by search dogs, had previously found discarded fruit the children ate to survive, as well as improvised shelters made with jungle vegetation. Aeroplanes and helicopters from Colombia's army and air force participated in the rescue operations. The president of Columbia Gustavo Petro informed about the children’s rescue from Amazon Forest on June 10. A Cessna 206 plane, carrying 7 passengers crashed between the route of Araracuara, in Amazonas province, and San Jose del Guaviare on May 1. The plane experienced an engine failure following which it lost control and crashed into the Amazon forest.
