A shocking incident of child molestation has emerged from Thane. Reportedly, on a school trip on February 20th, the bus attendant molested 8-10 children who were from grade 2. Parents held protests outside school against the school administration over alleged molestation of children on a school trip. They were demanding the resignation of the teachers involved and management. We have filed an FIR against the teacher, management, principal and the criminal. On the Thane children molestation incident, a parent said, "On February 20, when kids from grade 2 were on a picnic, two outsiders also accompanied them which wasn't informed to any parents. We don't know the due diligence or the process through which they're selected for the picnic.”

Asia’s biggest mental asylum, the Regional Mental Hospital of Thane, has always been in the news for the wrong reasons. Recently, a patient was beaten to death by the staff, following which a police complaint was filed by his kin. Mid-day, while trying to uncover details about the case, stumbled upon far more sinister goings-on at the institution. Over a long investigation, the reporters found that the asylum has been admitting perfectly sane people by certifying them as unstable for as paltry a bribe as Rs 8,200. One of the Mid-day reporters, Saimullah Khan approached the hospital staff with a request to admit his ‘cousin’ Faizan, who is another reporter from Mid-day. When the reporters followed the legitimate admission procedure, the staff refused to entertain them. However, after talking to a few staffers, the in-charge of a ward agreed to clear all hurdles in return for Rs. 8,200. Without making basic inquiries or demanding the patient’s medical history or documents, Faizan was admitted to the hospital after paying the bribe. A major fire broke out at a commercial complex in Maharashtra's Thane city on the night of Tuesday, April 18th. Officials said it was brought under control after 10 hours on Wednesday morning. At least 15 vehicles parked in the building were charred and many offices were destroyed. There was no report of any casualty. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A robbery attempt was foiled on Monday after a Thane-based jewellery shop owner visited the shop at odd hours for some work and caught one of the accused red-handed. The incident took place at Chendani-Koliwada in the Kopri area. A gang of robbers had rented an adjacent to the jewellery shop on the pretext of setting up a farsan outlet but in six months the burglars drilled a hole in the shop's wall. On Monday around 1.30 pm, Dilip Kataria, owner of Bhawani Jewellers, visited the shop to collect something. When he opened the shop shutter, he was shocked to find a man inside the shop. He started shouting, nabbed the man and called the Thane Police Control room. Kopri cops rushed to the spot.
