Take it from us, nothing can beat the crisp elegance of a pristine plain white shirt and dark blue denims. A formal touch to an informal attire, this combo is the best bet for workplace wear where smart casual is an unwritten code. Moreover, it suits all skin tones and body types and works best on regular hot sultry Mumbai and Bangalore working days. Actor and former VJ Rahul Khanna, who is a confirmed blue-white freak, loves wearing smart collared white T-shirts or crisp linen/cotton button down shirts with cool loafers or chappals. He says, “I love white. I think it works really well in our climate and I always feel fresh and cool when I sport it. Blue works well with it because it’s another cooling colour.” And since you’re always in a dilemma about what to wear to office, this is as safe as it gets. Fashion designer Runali Bhagat says, “Since Indian men don’t like experimenting too much, this combination is like a mama’s recipe that will never let you down. After all, not everyone is comfortable wearing metrosexual colours like reds and pinks.” And if you’re bored of the combination, we suggest sprucing up your look. Try sporting a smart leather or corduroy jacket on cooler days or an open shirt on warm days. We don’t recommend wearing a denim jacket as too much of denim doesn’t look good either, especially if it is the exact shade of your jeans. A funky, coloured cloth or canvas belt can do the trick. But, please abstain from wearing skulls or fake D&Gs on the buckles. If you have a paunch, leave your shirt out or you’ll end up looking like a David Dhawan. Toned men look fab in well-fitting shirts. But no matter how fit you may feel, don’t team blue jeans with sleeveless shirts. If Salman Khan can’t carry it off, you can imagine how bad you’d look. Be it a meeting, dinner or just a regular day at work, blue and white will come to your rescue. It’s understated yet smart, casual yet classy. So the next time you want your colleagues to notice you, make a blue and white statement ! sheena.thomas@mid-day.com |
