Yes, karaoke is embarrassing. But when money's on offer, it may not be that bad. Today, a national karaoke competition makes its way to the city to find who has the best vocals on karaoke. The winner from this round will then progress to Bengaluru for the national finals.

Called Kroaking, this competition has been organised by Opus, a popular Bengaluru nightspot, and is in its sixth season. Singers can sing in any genre and the winner, along with winners from other cities will be flown down to Bengaluru for the finals.
This year, a total of 11 cities are participating in the competition. "We have just completed rounds in Goa, Hyderabad and Chennai, where at least 100 people competed in each city. Now we go to Kolkata, Shillong, Aizwal, Manipal and then Bengaluru," says Carlton Braganza, proprietor of Opus.
All finalists get to record one track each on a Kroaking compilation CD and the winner of the national round wins Rs 50,000, merchandise from apparel brands, and a roundtrip to London.
"This competition will also hopefully boost their music careers," says Braganza. Last year's national winner Sanam Puri from Mumbai, is now the front man of SQS Supastars, a band that has released two music videos since.
