Bombay Scottish girls gift sports manager Furtado a 1-0 win in U-14 semi-finals

Jump in joy: Bombay Scottish’ Lubna Shaikh (right) celebrates her goal against Carmel of St Joseph yesterday.
It was a perfect 40th birthday gift for Bombay Scottish’s Patricia Furtado. The Mahim-school’s U-14 girls team Sports Manager could not have asked for more than semi-final win on the special occasion.

And even the players realised it as they dedicated the 1-0 win over Malad school, Carmel of St Joseph to enter the MSSA inter-school girls’ football final at Azad Maidan.

This is the second consecutive year for Scottish in the final. Lubna Shaikh scored the solitary goal in the 39th minute of the tightly-contested affair. And Lubna was delighted for her Manager.

“I dedicate this goal to her (Furtado). We wanted to celebrate her birthday with a victory.
So it’s a double treat today and we want to enjoy the moment,” Lubna said.

“I have been scoring well in the whole tournament and I thought it was my responsibility to score again today.

And now we are looking forward to win the final. Last year we were the runners-up, but this year we would definitely beat St. Anne’s.”
Furtado was extremely pleased that her girls had kept the promise they made before the match.

“I’m very excited with the victory. Before the match the girls had promised me, that they would give me a birthday gift by winning the match.

And no other gift can be as precious as this. The girls kept their words and I’m on top of the world today. The girls are playing well and we have a great chance to win this year,” said Furtado, hoping for another gift from her team, albeit a belated one.
