 | | Ajinkya Rahane | AJINKYA Rahane wasn’t aware till yesterday that he now holds the Indian record for the highest individual score in a List A (any limited overs match at any level) innings. It’s something the young Mumbai opener did not bother looking up. A friend told him he surpassed another Mumbaikar with his thundering 187 against Maharashtra on Monday.
Rahane overtook Sachin Tendulkar (186) with the mammoth effort but was extremely sincere when asked what it means to him.
Long way to go
“Seriously, there is no comparison here. I had a good knock against Baroda (70). I wanted to get a hundred. I did not imagine it could be this big. It feels great to beat Tendulkar’s score but I have a long way to go before I can be spoken in the same manner as him,” Rahane told MiD DAY yesterday.
Rahane feels it is his easy and uncomplicated approach, which has helped him and Mumbai in the Ranji ODIs, but a few other factors also played a role.
“We were very frustrated after going out in the league stage of the Ranji Trophy. I think the frustration was released on the bowlers. Watching Wasimbhai (Jaffer) bat against Baroda (178), I knew even I could score big. But for the most part, we wanted to retain the zonal championship to regain some pride.” |
