Mohali:

Openers Virender Sehwag (53) and Gautam Gambhir (46) took India's lead to 301 runs at the end of Day Three of the second Test against Australia here on Sunday.

The Delhi batsmen helped India reach 100 for no loss, setting up a winning position for the hosts who seek to be the first team to notch up a victory in this four-Test series after the drawn encounter in Bengaluru.

Earlier in the day, Australia were bowled out for 268 but India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni decided against enforcing the follow-on. Leg-spinner Amit Mishra with five for 71 on Test debut was the star of the show for India. Mishra came into the side due to an injury to Anil Kumble. For Australia, Shane Watson was the shining light with 78 after Mike Hussey's half century.

With two full days of cricket left, India are indeed the favourites to claim victory on a ground where they have been beaten only once – in 1994.
