South Africa have not sorted Sehwag yet

By: Sanjjeev K Samyal

The wild celebrations at the fall of Virender Sehwag's wicket after he had scored a hundred was quite understandable. South Africa knew they had ducked a bullet. For, when Sehwag gets going, he generally makes it count with a big one. The Indian opener has got six double hundreds and 12 of his 18 hundreds are scores of 150-plus. His first innings score of 109 in the first Test is his third lowest score after reaching a hundred.

His hundred however, may not make a difference in the final analysis as South Africa have taken a stranglehold in the first Test.

The positive of the innings for India is that the Sehwag-phobia will continue to affect South Africans in future battles. They had come into the game boasting they had sorted the Indian opener. In fact, pace spearhead Dale Steyn was quite vocal about it.

"He got a triple against us at Chennai. But once we exploited what his biggest weaknesses were, he wasn't able to get away again after that. We definitely have our game plans against somebody like him. What's happened in the past has happened in the past. This is a new tour, we have plans for him," Steyn had said.

But despite Steyn being at his absolute best yesterday, he was perhaps not got enough against the destructive powers of Sehwag. While SA bowlers' domination over the rest of the Indian batting continued, Sehwag, who averaged 79.25 at home before this game, has only improved his record against the Proteas.
