PV Sindhu and Ajay Jayaram’s impressive run in the China Masters Superseries badminton event ended after they lost their respective semi-finals here on Saturday.
Sindhu, who upset London Olympics gold medallist Li Xuerui in the quarter-finals on Friday, gave another Chinese, Jiang Yanjiao, a run for her money before losing 10-21, 21-14, 19-21 at the Olympics Sports Center Xincheng Gymnasium here.

World No 29 Jayaram went down to Hong Kong’s Yun Hu 16-21, 18-21 in the men’s singles semi-finals. Sindhu, ranked 24th, showed her prowess before losing a one hour six minute thriller against the World No 9.
The 17-year-old staged a remarkable recovery after being hammered in the opening game. It was a neck-and-neck fight in the decider.
