Kumble replaces Ganguly as technical head

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly's decision to play domestic cricket for Bengal jeopardised his chance of being retained as the chief of the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) technical committee

Asked about the reason for Ganguly’s omission, BCCI president N Srinivasan said: “Sourav is still playing. He will be leading Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, so how can he be on the technical committee? A player has to retire to be on the panel.”

New chairman Kumble, who was a member of the technical panel, appeared happy with the promotion although he said: “No role is new for us cricketers.”
Ganguly took over reigns from another former India captain — Sunil Gavaskar at the 2011 AGM.
