Fifteen years ago, David Trattle set out to see the world — on a bicycle. While most people thought it to be a rather curious thing to do, he discovered that travelling on two wheels were the best way for a man to see everything.Frozen in time: A photograph from David Trattle’s collection — Out There Canada
It was during his road trip from Turkey to Hong Kong on his bicycle that he decided to document everything that he saw and learnt.
Today, he has been able to document some of the most curious and interesting things that helps you discover people in a rather unique way. Find out all about them through his pictures in his exhibition titled — Out There Canada.
The story
Out There Canada documents the lives of rural Canadians — who live on empty farmlands, away from the city. “It’s a great way to bring Canada to this country. I’m trying to tell a bunch of little stories with my photography,” says David.
“I find the people most fascinating. Sometime back, I went to Africa for an assignment but I was not there to photograph the desperation that is exists there. I wanted to take pictures that tell the stories of these people and how they cope with life,” he adds.
The photographer hopes to that viewers can see and understand all that he is trying to say. “Every photograph is simple enough for people to understand; yet it doesn’t give away everything.
There’s a small description attached in the catalogue to help understand everything about the picture too,” says the photographer. David will soon head to Kolkata for to showcase a series of pictures he’s shot of Muslim women boxers.
Good show
Out There Canada is David’s first show with such a large number of photographs — as many as 42 frames. Though, his next show in Kolkata will see as many as 60 frames.
“It’s beautiful — to be able to tell my story in this format. I am not interested in taking pictures of things. People are what I love,” concludes the photographer.
