Baap re baap

By: Rakesh Kumar
Radio One's Rakesh Kumar tells you why he and Prithvi are feeling more overworked than Santa Claus this season

Aaj ka radio taapmaan: "Frequency 94.3 RadioOne is reported to be beaming at very high temperatures.

Slight smoke and traces of carbon dioxide are expected to be emitted out of your radio sets. As per the 'Radio-logical' department, these spurts are due to the festive cyclone that has hit the creative team of RadioOne.

Especially the morning show crew RJ Prithvi and Producer Rakesh."

"So much to give and so less time!" This thought has been haunting Prithvi and me every minute of each day this week. (For once something can actually haunt us. It's usually the other way round). It being the Christmas week, we felt we had a lot more, than any Santa in the world, to give out as gifts. From huge amounts of cash to mobile phones; from Christmas lunches and brunches to exclusive tickets for the latest blockbusters; from passes to amusement parks to shopping vouchers at the biggest malls. God…! Did we feel like the baap of Santas…? Yes we did! All this, on the show (Good Morning Bengalooru, Mon to Fri, 7am to 11am) just for someone, who would come on air and guess the Bollywood song, sung in the style of a Christmas carol. How simple could it get? It's like teaching Prithvi and me, how to put on our pants! (Prithvi struggled to get them on, till his 7th grade though. Don't have to feel bad, Prithvi. Not all are talented!)

At one point Prithvi and I, wept over our misfortune for not being on the other side of the radio to grab all that was given out. But the Herculean task for us was: How to fit all this in such a limited time span? Like you know, we in radio are blessed with seconds to make a difference on air. We made a killer plan! It was called: The No Plan. Just bung everything everywhere and we'll see what happens. That's what we did and, to our luck, (the born lizards, sorry, wizards that we are) everything went on well and the show was a super hit. Don't try this at your work place. Such modus operandi clicks only in special cases and with special people... Taare Zameen Par....
