Sprawling over two floors and beaming with the perfect Latina vibes, Sancho's, located in the plush environs of South Extension, will surely be of interest to the lovers of Mexican fare.
Drinks: From the usual first-class bar liquors like vodka, beer and wine to premium combination cocktails like Mojito (Rs 275), Caipirojca (Rs 275), Margarita( Rs 299) and Sangria (Rs 299), the spirits collection is vast. Those who like playing it safe can opt for mocktails such as watermelon shirley temple (Rs 125) or the lemongrass and cucumber slush (Rs 175).
Menu: For starters, we picked up tortilla bar (Rs 99) - a basket of mixed tortilla chips (blue corn, lime, plain, etc.) served with seven different flavours of salsa. The order was followed by baked potato skins (Rs 175), blue corn Mexican bruschetta and vegetable flautas (Rs 195). The second serving made for decent taste but didn't match the first pick. As per the carnivores, habanero marinated buffalo wings (Rs 175) and the honey chipotle glazed chicken skewers (Rs 195) will be apt.
Moving on to the next level of the food experience - the main course - we had opted for burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas, sizzling fajitas, soft and crunchy tacos and tortas and didn't regret out selection.
The executive chef, Jorge A Romero - a Texan - refuses to Indianise the preparation because he prefers not to compromise on the Mexican taste. "The only modification I do to suit the Indian preferences is to add more chilli to the salsas," he says. We made a perfect finish to the dining experience by ordering the dessert platter, which allows one to sample four different sweets (Rs 145). This apart, Mexican piped doughnuts and chocolate indulgence were surprising too.
Ambience: Since we went for a lunch and that too on a weekday, the eatery was mostly vacant. But unlike other eating joints, which close down certain sections in the unavailability of enough crowd, Sanchos's is an exception.
The upbeat interiors extensively use Latin colours (orange, blue, red) and artefacts to ensure a warm and comfortable experience. Even the bills are sent to your table in a sombrero.
Music: Weekends here are highlighted by live entertainment including DJs spinning Latin and Lounge music, Mariachi bands, Flamenco and salsa dancers.
