Woof up your room Sanju Baba style
By: Aashwari Chouhan

Mumbai:

The sword blade whoosh, the tea cup swerving in mid-air, and then landing with a smooth finish on to the edge of the sword, the sound of wooden planks collapsing, warriors taking position, arrows penetrating a stiff wooden floor Tarantino's Kill Bill never sounded better. To top that, the recliner chair comfort and lounge-like dim lighting in Thump's demo room, transported us from a gloomy Thursday to marathon movie Sundays.

That's what the owners of this day-old high-end speaker system store are selling a concept, along with speakers by three international makes: Mirage (Canadian), Energy (Canadian) and Cerwin-Vega (American).

The store is ready to convert your room into an acoustic delight. They can provide you with recliners, a projector system, a Crestron Touch Panel (that takes care of lighting as well as sound), along with acoustics. The speaker range is available in three varieties Satellite (which can be mounted on the wall), book-shelf, and floor stand tower speakers.

Mirage: This is one of the 4 brands in the world that provides OMNIPOLAR or 360 degree sound. The omnipolar feature resonates with 70% reflected sound and 30% direct sound; the reflected sound drowns out the "noise" from the movie.
Price range: Rs 55,000 to Rs 4.5 lakh
Energy: This is a high-end speaker brand, specially known for its tower range.
Price range: Rs 30,000 to Rs 2.6 lakh
Cerwin-Vega: Audiophiles will dig this one. The brand's floor speakers and woofer systems are a class apart.
Price range: Rs 20,000 to Rs 95,000

A shikara sails at Goregaon

If you like the taste of those giant, crumpled ruby red chillies, and of course, fennel seeds, you are sure to enjoy Kashmiri cuisine. KongPoush is a new Kashmiri eatery in town, that's a little tough to locate though, considering your only landmarks are traffic signals and a bus depot. But it's worth the searching.

The menu: It bound to stump you considering it carries dishes you have not heard of, like Kokur Yakhni, and Chamman Qaliya. The only hint of familiarity was the Seekh Kabab (Rs 159), chargrilled boned shoulder of lamb, finely ground with root spices. The Nadir Palak Tikki (Rs 99) made from lotus stems and palak, left us pleasantly surprised.
we tried: If you've never tried Kashmiri cuisine, we suggest you opt for one of the thaals; each of them includes eleven items (including starters and dessert). The Kong Phirin (Rs 49), is a yummy Kashmiri phirni.

For the veggies: Dai Batta Thaal (Rs 249) is the perfect option for vegetarians. While the Chamman Qaliya was a bit salty, Tsok Wangun (Rs 109) went overboard on tang. We enjoyed Rajmah with rice (Rs 99).

Drinks: The Kahwa, a Kashmiri aromatic green tea with saffron and spices (Rs 29) was a delight. For the less adventurous, there's a list of aerated drinks (Rs 39).

Ambience: With walnut woodwork and artefacts, Kashmiri weave cushion covers and strains of the santoor playing in the background, the place has an authentic feel. Owing to the shikara seating, privacy is guaranteed. We enjoyed the ritual of washing our hands in warm water before being served, and after being done with the meal too.

Service: The waiters were informed, and polite. The food was served quickly. The bill didn't take long to get to our table, either!
