The God of Indian cuisine, Jiggs Kalra, finally brings his bounty of rich khaana to mere mortals with Punjab Grill, a swank new restaurant in Gurgaon's Ambi Mall. Joining him in his frontier food quest is son Zorawar, and together, they promise a great treat!
Menu: The place is all about culinary delicacies from the undivided India of the yesteryears. On your menu are dishes from gourmet metropolises like Lahore, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Kabul and Multan, among others. Sounds yummy?
For starters, vegetarians can make a dig at Bhutteyan Da Kebab (Rs 300), Dahi ke kebab (Rs 300), Lahori Seekh Kebeb and Paneer Tikka Multani (Rs 350). Carnivores can feast on Tandoori Lobster (Rs 1,400), Tandoori Duck (Rs 1,050), Salmon Tikka (Rs 700) and Raan Hari Singh Nalwa (Rs 650).
For the main course, the vegetarian spread includes Bharwan Kesari Gucchi (Jumbo morels), Masaledaaar Bhindi (Rs 280), Daal Panchratni (Rs 280) and Pindi Channa (Rs 280) while meat lovers can lick their fingers off Kadhai Jheenga (Rs 575), Murgh Makani (Rs 475) and Raarhya Meat (Rs 425).
One can relish these dishes with range of breads including Amritsari Kulche (Rs 130), Lehsuni Naan and rice in form of Gucchi Pulao (Rs 500) and Tarkari Kesati Biryani (Rs 300).
On a sweet note, pick Phirni (Rs 150), Kheer (Rs 150) and Gulab Jamun.
If you're one of those who can never quite decide what's best, opt for the buffet, which is available from noon to 4 pm at Rs 390 onwards.
Drinks: Though Punjab Grill got its liquor license only around a week back, it's well stocked with a fine selection of single malts, wines, champagnes and beers. Our recommendation from the assortment of mocktails includes Mauja Hi Mauja (Rs 350) and Singh is King (Rs 375).
Ambience: The space is divided into indoor and outdoor seating areas. The interior of this 84 cover space boasts of pictures of Mughal kings on classy walls. Sufi music completes the magic.
