Dancing Divas: The instructors of Banjara School of Dance showcasing body moves

More than masti:
The 'body movement and isolation classes' the isolation part describing the act of concentrating on one set of muscles at a time are a combination of jazz, hip hop, belly, and Afro forms to enhance your moves and take your salsa sense to a higher level. But no, they aren't just about salsa, but holistic healing through varied body expressions, many of which can't be classified as 'dance' per say. "Body movement is a sort of exercise, as you sweat during this. It relaxes you and also builds more stamina, apart from increasing productivity levels," said Meher Malik, mastermind of Banjara, the group behind the course. What if you can't spare time regularly? "In case you miss classes, you can cover up later, since these are not like choreography classes, but muscle-opening exercises where the idea is just to work on different muscle groups," she explained.

Feeling 'stiffy'? Here, you get a chance to get rid of those stiff shoulders, hips et al. The activity also gives an insight into the science of movement and where it all comes from. "All human beings have blocked energies in their bodies, which leads to the blockage of various body parts. We're trying to channelise these and solve the chakras," said the belly dancer from the Middle East. With an experience of five years in salsa dancing in India, she feels, "This is for the first time we are starting with this workshop a mix of dance, yoga and much more. This is because we aren't merely a training company, but an artistic shelter where different minds, bodies and souls will meet over and above dance," revealed Malik. So, you can be a part of gamut of art forms, classes in hip hop, lyrical jazz, funk jazz, contemporary, kathak, semi-classical, folk and classical dance forms, yoga, salsa and Egyptian oriental forms, too.
