Trite affair

By: Manju Shettar

Film: Gulama (Kannada)
Star Cast: Prajwal Devaraj, Biyanka Desai, Sonu
Direction: Tushar Ranganath
Theaters: Kapali, Pramod and PVR
Rating: 2/5

Gulama is a love story with the usual backdrop of blood and gore. Newbie Tushar Ranganath describes his film as "realistic" and plays up the violence more than the love story.

Anil (Prajwal Devaraj), a polite and helpful youngster, has a soft spot for Priya (Biyanka Desai), his classmate. He is unaware that his neighbour, Divya (Sonu), loves him. Sadly, both are one-sided love stories. Now, here comes the twist. Anil suddenly becomes trigger-happy and kills an underworld don. Priya and Divya help him out of trouble, leaving him in a quandary. The love story has now turned into a messy triangle, he thinks. We think it's time we scooted from the theatre!

What's hot: Decent performances from Prajwal and Biyanka and a neat cameo by Rangayana Raghu. The cinematography by K M Vishnuvardan is refreshing.

What's not: The plot is trite. The flashbacks get repetitive. The choreography and music are disappointing
