In the last decade, new-age artists have explored violence comprehensively, which is because of the deepening of hostility in the human minds. This time around, the city's all set to see a show themed around 500 years of violence, death and non-violence. We give you a peek into what's in store for you at the Jashn-Osianama.

The Last Aggression by Ved Nayar | Treasure trove
The maiden edition exhibits 800 select masterpieces from Osian's archive and library. For this, artworks and other cultural objects of exceptional quality have been sourced from around the world. The exhibition comprises select paintings of Indian modern contemporary art, focusing on the concept of death and its myriad expressions and shadows.
Veteran view
A visually spectacular collection of over hundred magnificent, rare artworks will be on display. Various mediums like oil on canvas, watercolours, mixed media, etching, pastel on paper, charcoal on paper, gouache, acrylic and tempera find place at the exhibition.
Some of the masters who will be featured here are Nandalal Bose, Jamini Roy, FN Souza, Nikhil Biswas, Satish Gujral, Dhanraj Bhagat, Ganesh Pyne, Manjit Bawa, Prokash Karmakar, Rameshwar Broota, J Sultan Ali, KCS Paniker, Krishen Khanna, Vivan Sundaram, Altaf, Ved Nayar, Ranbir Kaleka, Surendran Nair, Chitrovanu Mazumdar, Rekha Rodwittiya and others.

"Jashn-Osianama will be an attempt to look at the anatomy of violence, and how Indian, Asian and Hollywood art have dealt with it through various art forms. You will find a plethora of artists conveying the same theme. Also, 'death', with a focus on its violent character in many cases, has been expressed with a vast diversity of focus, angst and creativity," says Neville Tuli, Founder-Chairman, Osian's. |
