For all the dope on how to survive the Indie music scene and hob nob with the experts, drop in at Un-convention, a two-day music conference
The sheer volume of its panelists; 40 national and international representatives from every nook of the independent music scene; makes Un-convention the most comprehensive music conference run by-and-for the grass roots of the industry.
If you are a musician, a band manager, record label owner, venue owner, online website owner or publisher, this is the place to hob-nob with the newsmakers of the domestic Indie music industry.
Organised by the British Council and Only Much Louder (OML) in association with YP Foundation, the two-day conference kickstarts today.
The focus is fortunately devoid of Bollywood music. Instead, other important genres like folk, regional and metal will take centre stage.

Getting to the bottom of where it all begins, subjects up for discussion vary from the relevant Intellectual Property Rights to breaking down the money pie to tell you exactly how much musicians earn and what labels make.
The D-I-Why panel will familiarise you with the tricky ropes of how to start your own business, on your own terms.
"It's not just about gyaan. But we're positive that discussions will bring in new ideas and like-minded people," explains Girish Bobby Talwar, founder, OML and moderator of the Unpublished session.
The idea behind Un-convention is to deconstruct and analyse the unique environment in which India's Indie music industry thrives.
"We want to look at the future of Indie music in India, which isn't restricted to being on the fringes of the mainstream music scene anymore," says Talwar.
Panelist include Andrew Dubber, a New Music strategist, Andrew Philip, an internationally renowned multimedia expert, Hindustani classical singer Shubha Mudgal, Pentagram front man and Bollywood music composer Vishal Dadlani, are a few names to look out for at the conference.

Un-convention also includes a showcase of some of the most promising Indie music groups from the country.
Watch out for performances by Pentagram, Shaa'ir n Func and Tough on Tobacco on November 22, 6.30 pm onwards at Carter Road Amphitheatre, Bandra (W).
If you want to nurse a drink while your favourite band performs, head to Zenzi Mills, Lower Parel on November 22 to watch performances by Swarathma and Bay Beat Collective, 11 pm onwards. |
