Ever thought shopping could be more about giving than acquiring? Crescent Moon, an exhibition-cum-sale that is organised for the cause of promoting women entrepreneurs and supporting NGOs, takes place this week, and we suggest you block the date.

With 74 stalls, including seven run by various NGOs that support education for underprivileged children and women empowerment, there's clearly a lot to choose from. Check out vases in wood and marble made by a woman hailing from Kanpur.

Bags and trays made from bamboo are sure to stand apart in a crowd and though it might be too early for a Diwali makeover for your house, don't forget to check out Sonal Mangala's artifacts like heritage lanterns, metallic flowers and candle stands, all manufactured in Moradabad. For the fashionista in you, browse through clothing and jewellery.

Amishi From London's Swarowski-studded couture bags will add a sparkle to your evenings. We found the children's jewellery and trinkets super-cute too.

"This serves as a platform for enterprising housewives who wanted to do something constructive and so started out from home and are now growing bigger," says Seema Jain, who organises the exhibition with her daughter, Natasha. "Chances are, you won't find these products anywhere else." A fraction of the proceeds from the sales go to the NGOs.
