That's how they say, 'Are you hungry?' in Italian. The GUIDE brings you a first look at Villa 39, SoBo's first standalone, fine dining, speciality Italian restaurant, that opens next week
When Villa 39 opens on March 25, it will be a first of sorts, considering it's the first stand-alone, fine-dining, specialty Italian restaurant in South Mumbai. While there are plenty of places that serve pastas, pizzas and risottos, there isn't a single purely Italian restaurant in the Colaba-Cuffe Parade area, outside a starred hotel.
What is striking about Villa 39 is its unconventional white and silver theme.

Proprietor Kajal Fabiani, opted for a bright look. The silver columns and haveli-style eaves against white walls, ivory furnishing and a backlit white alabaster bar counter lend the restaurant a sophisticated feel.
Taking its name from the postal code of the area (400 039), the restaurant that stands where multi cuisine eatery Flags used to be, is spread over three levels and incorporates multiple distinct spaces. The lower level is divided into a lounge that can be booked for private parties, and a bar.
While a smaller dining area next to the entrance will also be open between lunch and dinner, the main dining area on the upper level will be open during meal times.
A private dining area to seat 15 guests is located at the rear end of the upper level.
Interestingly, Villa 39 will have three menus. Apart from bar menu that will consist mostly of starters and appetisers, there will be separate menus for lunch and dinner.
Pizzas will be available only during the day, not at dinner time.
The food is a mix of basic Italian dishes like Bolognese, Carbonara and Arabiata and a few adventurous ones like Champagne Risotto and Lobster Mousse Pasta.
Naturally, the menu is priced on the higher side, with a meal for two (excluding alcohol), costing between Rs 2,000 and Rs 3000.
