Reclining Buddha
Rs 5,000Two brass item stores couldnt be more different. Located at two far-flung corners of the city, Moradabad Metal House at Pydhonie, sticks to tradition, while Charbhuja at Santacruz Market takes tradition to modern levels.
Located next to Minara Masjid, Moradabad Metal House is stocked with traditional Moradabadi and Persian delights.
Pravin Darekar stands beside the 100-inch vase in his Pydhonie storeCharbhuja is a storehouse of Hindu deities and modern Feng Shui trinkets. What connects the two, is that they offer rare finds at rock bottom prices.
I come from Moradabad, also known as the Brass City, declares Pravin Darekar, who arrived in Mumbai to the city with eight brothers.
Moradabad, once ruled by Mughal Emperor Shahjahan, had an influence on the brass makers of the district, a distinct style that Pravin has carried with him to the city.

brass Ganesha
Rs 3,000We have brass vases with intricate Chuniajali and Bidri work, traditional hookahs, miniature gramophones and Moghul-style jugs. Since the area is predominantly Muslim, these traditional Moghul-style products are very popular here, says Pravin, pointing to the showstopper: A 100-inch tall vase that towers over him. The items range from Rs 200 to Rs 8,000.
Miles away is Charbhuja, named after a Hindu God. While brass Ganeshas, Krishna and Goddesses (Rs 300 to Rs 7,000) are its mainstay, it also makes room for exotic South East Asian Buddhas (Rs 1,000 to Rs 7,000) and Feng Shui bells (Rs 300 to Rs 1,000).
Brass elephant
Rs 800While we love to keep tradition alive through Charbhuja, we also have to cater to changing trends, says proprietor Prakash Mehta. Prakashbhai guarantees that the Buddhas you see here are sold at high-end stores with an inflated price tag.
First of all you wont get the variety we offer, and the price will be at least 25% higher.
