Yes, they look great in a photograph together. And they also happen to be Indian fashions most experimental designers, when it comes to their personal look. Nandita Mahtani claims to have an on-off relationship with black, so, it was nice to see her sporting beige babydoll top. The otherwise glamorous Nandi decided to keep it casual, throwing on a pair of spectacles at a press conference to announce the list of participating designers for Lakm Fashion Week, at Hilton Towers.
Almost reminiscent of Preity Zinta in Kal Ho Naa Ho, Nandi chatted with Narendra Kumar. Nari decided to end his receding hairy tales by going bald. There was something different about him. Maybe Its because Ive lost some weight, he chipped in, helpfully. Scotch is his only indulgence, he confessed.
What Nandita will show:
The champion of free wheeling style, Nandita will showcase flimsy garments that promise to dance in sensual abandon, bathed in soft colours like sea green, baby blue and pink. The clean silhouettes that she is synonymous with, will have the company of bold prints, something Nandita claimed is unknown territory.
What Narendra will show:
Narendra, who is known as much for his menswear as for his womens line, will present two separate collections. Since the looks are very different, I decided to go ahead with two separate shows. This was the only way I could do justice to both, he said. The mens line will be reek of sporty fun, while the womens range is going to demi-couture.
Hum denge Bollywood ka dose
Nandita Mahtani, Salman Khans sis-in-law Seema Khan, stylist for Sallu and Priyanka Chopra, Vikram Phadnis,
and stylist for Jaan-e-Mann Surily Goel (right), are guaranteed to inject this fashion week with an adequate does of Bollywood.
Thanks to the aggressive publicity Jaan-e-Mann has indulged in, you might as well look out for the stars, Akshay Kumar, salman Khan, Preity Zinta and choreographer Farah Khan occupying front-row seats for Surilys show
Im an urban warrior
Delhi designer Arjun saluja
Nope, he didnt say that. Weve decided to call him that. Arjun was one of the differently dressed designers, someone who stood out in a crowd for his silver jewellery, canary yellow spectacle frames and warrior pants.
If his collection has any of the funk his own wardrobe does, wed want to watch out for him.
I was feeling wasted!
James Ferreira says hes in charge of his life, once again
Not many know that Mumbai based James Ferreira is one of Indias pioneering designers. He shares the esteemed position with Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla, Wendell Rodricks, Tarun Tahiliani and Shadab Durazi to name a few.
But for the last few years, James designing career had taken a backseat. He was busy with assignments where international design houses required him to take on embroidery jobs. But the temperamental designer is back with a new-found zing.
I decided to participate this year, since I feel confident about my clothes. I also realised that I had become complacent and over-dependent on my karigars. But now that I have got back to my sewing machine, I am in charge of my life, he proclaimed.
Known for his dagger-sharp sarcastic sense of humour, James collection is funnily titled, Bombay Tokyo, in which he claims to have created fuss-free saris, that you can slide on rather than drape. We are glad to have James back.
Finally, he will be heard for what he does for a living designing, and not just as a Mumbaikar who champions the cause of protecting heritage precincts like Kotachiwadi, where incidentally, he lives in a gorgeous bungalow.
