The officials seized narcotic substances, chemicals and laboratory equipment collectively worth over Rs 13.65 crore, he said.

Initially, the case first came to light after police raided a flat in the Nayanagar area of Mira Road East and recovered 1 kg 324 grams of MD drug valued at Rs 2.66 crore from the residence of a woman identified as Firdos Arbaaz Qureshi.

During the probe, officials found that the seized contraband allegedly belonged to her husband, Arbaaz Vakil Qureshi. 

Case registered under NDPS act

Based on the recovery, the Nayanagar Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

The case was subsequently transferred to the Crime Branch for a deeper investigation into what officials suspect is a larger drug syndicate. So far, police have arrested 13 accused, including two women and 11 men, in connection with the case.

As the investigation progressed, Crime Branch officials unearthed multiple alleged drug manufacturing and storage units operating in the Malvani and Gorai areas of Mumbai.

Narcotic substances worth Rs 13 crore seized

Raids conducted at Saman Nagar in Malvani, Azmi Nagar in Malvani and Mauje Manori in Gorai resulted in the seizure of 6 kg 773 grams of MD drugs and nearly 255 litres of chemicals allegedly used in the large-scale production of the synthetic narcotic.

The recovered chemicals included sodium hydroxide pellets, hydrochloric acid, acetone, dichloromethane, methylamine and chloroform.

Police also seized laboratory equipment allegedly used in the manufacturing process, including heating dryers, separation flasks, heating mantles, recovery flasks, four-finger clamps, addition pots and Buchner funnels.

According to officials, the total value of the seized narcotics, chemicals and equipment is estimated at Rs 13,65,45,095.

Police said further investigation is underway to trace the syndicate’s supply chain, identify its financial backers and examine possible interstate links to the drug network.

The incident took place on Train No. 22538 (Kushinagar Express), which was travelling from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in Mumbai to Bhusawal.

According to railway officials, after the train crossed Kalyan station, a passenger from a crowded general compartment informed ticket inspector R S Teli that a pregnant woman was suffering from severe labour pain.

As the general coach was heavily crowded, the railway staff shifted the woman to the carry door area near the AC coach at Kasara station with the help of fellow passengers.

Nurse helps with delivery

According to the officials, fortunately, a nurse travelling in the general compartment came forward to assist during the emergency.

With her help, the woman delivered a healthy baby girl inside the moving train.

Officials said the delivery was normal and both the mother and child were stable.

Ambulance on standby at Igatpuri

Railway officials immediately informed the Centralised Control Office at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT).

An ambulance, stretcher, doctors and railway officials were arranged at Igatpuri station to provide medical assistance.

The mother and newborn were later shifted to a railway hospital for further care and observation, said an official.

However, businesses will retain full control and can take over conversations from the AI whenever needed, the messaging platform said. Starting soon, it will additionally support payments within chats using UPI.

The officials from WhatsApp also added that, “Over the coming weeks, Business AI will be rolled out to all eligible businesses on the WhatsApp Business app.”

91 per cent of adults in India chat with businesses every week

Highlighting a study, WhatsApp showed 91 per cent of online adults in India chat with a business every week.

Speaking on the launch, Ravi Garg, Director of Business Messaging, Meta India, said SMEs often struggle to manage high volumes of customer queries with limited resources, and AI can help address this gap.

Garg further added, "Small businesses are the backbone of India`s economy, and we deeply understand the value of every customer conversation for them. Managing high volumes of customer queries with limited resources remains one of the biggest challenges for small businesses. With the introduction of Business AI on WhatsApp, we are putting that power directly into the hands of small businesses," as cited by IANS. 

How to activate ‘Your Business AI’

Eligible businesses can activate the feature through the WhatsApp Business app by navigating to the Tools tab and selecting `Your Business AI`, where they can follow guided steps for setup. 

Additionally, the AI can be trained using existing business profiles, product catalogues and documents, and businesses can modify or turn off the feature at any time.

Shivjyoti talks about her character

Speaking about her first reaction to the role, Shivjyoti admitted she was unsure because Natasha was unlike anything she had done before. “To be very, very honest, I was not really keen on this character because first, it is a role of a gangster and it was something I have never done before,” she shared.

However, the audition changed her perspective. The actress revealed that Natasha’s struggles reminded her of girls she had once worked with at an orphanage. “There was a thing about girls who are underprivileged and victims of circumstances. I used to support an orphanage and I remember the girls there suffered the same kind of crisis,” she said.

Shivjyoti further recalled being falsely blamed while trying to help the girls. “The owners of the orphanage took the blame on me as if I was trying to take money from people. It was a very personal incident for me,” she added.

The actress said Natasha’s journey became more than just a fictional role for her. “A lot of girls who are orphans or part of such scandals have no voice and they don’t know what to do. I wanted to give a performance where they can feel confidence and courage,” she explained.

Recalls the scarring killing scene

Talking about Natasha’s complex relationship with Gautam, Shivjyoti described the character as someone trapped between survival and power. “She was getting abused sexually, so she used her sex to get the power and he was using his power to get sex from her,” the actress stated, while clarifying that Natasha was never truly in love with Gautam.

One of the most discussed moments from the season was Natasha killing Gautam. Shivjyoti admitted filming the sequence was emotionally exhausting. “Before the scene, we all were sweating because it was clearly very hot. I was only thinking about the whole situation with all that my girls went through,” she revealed.

According to the actress, Natasha never intended to murder Gautam. “She only wanted him to be punished but the situation triggered her so much that she came out of that cocoon,” Shivjyoti explained, adding that Natasha finally exploded after suppressing her emotions for too long.

The actress also spoke about chopping off her hair for the role despite people around her advising against it. “Everybody was telling me to grow my hair, but my director wanted this look,” she said.

Shivjyoti believes Natasha’s appearance was crucial because the show needed a woman who could dominate a male-driven world. “They wanted somebody who can dominate the male world, but with an innocent face that nobody would suspect,” she concluded.

The system designed to help the referee with ‘clear and obvious errors’ is causing fans to fall out of love with the game they once enjoyed. The thrill of scoring has been replaced by an anxious wait, and the joy of a last-minute winner must now be put on hold while an official, sitting miles away from the stadium, decodes every movement in slow motion and from multiple angles, almost as if searching for a reason to disallow the goal.

According to a weather bulletin, Akola emerged as the hottest location in the state with a maximum temperature of 45.1 degrees Celsius on May 11, 2026.

The weather department`s data showed that Amravati followed closely at 44 degrees Celsius, while Wardha recorded 43.8 degrees Celsius and Buldana touched 43.2 degrees Celsius.

Other districts in Vidarbha also remained extremely hot, including Nagpur at 42 degrees Celsius, Brahmpuri at 42.2 degrees Celsius and Washim at 42.6 degrees Celsius.

Mumbai suburbs also witness high temperatures

The overall temperature in Mumbai was on Monday recorded 35.4 degrees Celsius.

The weather department data showed that the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also experienced hot weather conditions with temperatures remaining well above normal in several suburbs.

Among the local weather stations, Ram Mandir recorded the highest temperature at 39.7 degrees Celsius. Vikhroli registered 38.5 degrees Celsius, while Bandra recorded 37.3 degrees Celsius. Dahisar and Vidyavihar reported temperatures of 37.1 degrees Celsius and 36.8 degrees Celsius respectively.

The rise in temperatures, combined with humidity, made outdoor conditions uncomfortable for residents during the afternoon hours.

Earlier on Monday morning, the weather department had predicted that Mumbai and its suburbs were expected to experience mainly clear skies along with hot and humid conditions on Monday, according to the India Meteorological Department.

It had stated that a maximum temperature of around 36 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius, indicating warm weather conditions across the city throughout the day.

Humidity levels remain moderate

Relative humidity levels remained moderate to high in some areas, adding to the discomfort caused by the heat.

Bhandara recorded the highest morning humidity at 93 per cent, while evening humidity levels remained elevated in Washim at 55 per cent.

Above-normal heatwave days likely in parts of India in May: IMD

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had said in its monthly forecast that above-normal heatwave days are likely in some parts of the foothills of the Himalayas, east coast states, Gujarat and Maharashtra in May.

The department also highlighted that the rainfall averaged over the country as a whole during May is most likely to be above normal, with the onset of the southwest monsoon over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands expected around May 14-16.

Director General of Meteorology, IMD, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, said, "During May 2026, minimum temperatures are expected to be above normal across many parts of the country."

"However, many areas of northwest India, along with some parts of central India and adjoining areas of peninsular India and southern parts of northeast India, are likely to experience normal to below-normal minimum temperatures," he said in a statement.

According to the officials, the seized drugs is worth around Rs 4 crore in the international market.

The accused have been identified as Armaan Ayub Malik (32), a resident of Dehradun in Uttarakhand, and Danish Bhura Ali (23), a resident of Haridwar, Uttarakhand, police sources said.

According to police officials, the accused were arrested during the early hours of Sunday, May 10, at around 3 am, following a targeted operation based on specific intelligence inputs and recovered 765 grams of heroin.

Case registered under NDPS Act

A case has been registered under Sections 8(c), 21(c), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Police said the seizure is part of an ongoing investigation into a larger drug trafficking network, and efforts are underway to trace and identify other individuals linked to the racket.

The operation was conducted by the Kandivali ANC unit under the leadership of Senior Police Inspector Shashikant Jagdale. 

The action was carried out under the guidance of Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Lakhmi Gautam, Additional Police Commissioner Shailesh Balakawade, DCP Navnath Dhavale and ACP Hirdekar.

Officials, while briefing about the operation, further said that the probe is continuing and further arrests are likely as investigators work to dismantle the wider narcotics supply chain operating in Mumbai and beyond.

MBVV cops bust MD manufacturing racket, seize drugs worth Rs 13.65 crore

In a separate incident, the Mira-Bhayandar Vasai-Virar (MBVV) police`s Crime Branch have busted a mephedrone (MD) drug manufacturing racket operating across multiple locations in Mumbai and the neighbouring Thane district.

The officials seized narcotic substances, chemicals and laboratory equipment collectively worth over Rs 13.65 crore, he said.

Initially, the case first came to light after police raided a flat in the Nayanagar area of Mira Road East and recovered 1 kg 324 grams of MD drug valued at Rs 2.66 crore from the residence of a woman identified as Firdos Arbaaz Qureshi.

During the probe, officials found that the seized contraband allegedly belonged to her husband, Arbaaz Vakil Qureshi. 

The instructions were issued during a monsoon preparedness review meeting held with various civic and government departments.

The collector instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) to carry out safety audits of all dangerous bridges, culverts and dilapidated buildings across the district.

Officials said the aim is to identify vulnerable structures and take preventive measures before heavy rainfall begins.

The Water Resources Department has also been directed to conduct physical inspections of dams to ensure structural safety and operational readiness during the monsoon, the news agency reported.

Disaster volunteers to be increased

Panchal stressed the need for a stronger disaster response system and asked officials to increase the number of trained disaster management volunteers across the district.

The volunteers will assist authorities in rescue and relief operations during emergencies such as flooding, landslides and building collapses, according to the PTI.

Safety drills

The collector directed the fire brigade, police and health departments to organise `colour rehearsals` or safety drills in every taluka to test emergency response systems and mobility during disaster situations.

Officials said the drills will help departments assess preparedness levels and improve coordination between agencies.

During the meeting, Panchal also reviewed villages vulnerable to landslides and flood-prone locations in the district.

The officials said that the District Planning Committee would provide funds for the purchase of essential rescue and emergency response equipment.

BMC to deploy ‘smart’ pumps to tackle waterlogging

Meanwhile, in response to complaints from citizens that dewatering pumps failed to operate in waterlogged areas last monsoon, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will now install IOT (Internet of Things)-based sensors on each of its 545 dewatering pumps. A control room will be set up at the BMC headquarters to monitor the pumps in real time.

Last year, only 110 of BMC’s 515 pumps had IOT sensors. These were installed on a trial basis. This year, all pumps will be fixed with these sensors.

Internet of Things (IoT) is a system of devices connected to the internet that use embedded sensors to send and receive data in real time. They track key parameters, detect issues, relay information to a central dashboard, and can trigger automated actions, enabling a swift response. IoT enables faster, proactive intervention, ensuring critical systems continue running smoothly, especially during emergency situations.
