Taking to their Instagram, Tovino and Nazriya shared the title poster of their upcoming Malayalam movie. The duo were seen holding the poster during the Barcelona and Real Madrid final on Sunday.

The film is directed by Muhsin Parari, marking his return to direction after his debut directorial KL 10 Patthu.

The screenplay is written jointly by Muhsin and Zakariya Mohammed, best known for directing Sudani from Nigeria.

Kamal Haasan on Vijay’s win

Speaking to reporters outside Chennai airport, Haasan praised Vijay and said, “Vijay should no longer be looked at as a cinema actor. He has other responsibilities. A chief minister could come from any walk of life. I am proud that he has come from the film industry.”

Dileep Raj was widely known among Kannada audiences for his memorable role in Puneeth Rajkumar-starrer Milana. The film became an important turning point in his career and helped him gain recognition across Karnataka. He also appeared in films like U-Turn and Boyfriend.

Over the years, Dileep created a strong place for himself in Kannada cinema and television through films, serials, theatre, production, and dubbing work.

Needless to say, the film has triggered huge expectations among fans and film buffs, ever since the project was first announced.

It may be recalled that Mohanlal had penned an emotional note when the project was kickstarted. Aashirvad Cinema, the production house producing the film, too had taken to its X timeline to post a message to Vismaya, welcoming her to the world of cinema.

With hearts full of pride and eyes set on the horizon, we unveil a new voice, a fresh vision, and the dawn of a luminous new chapter. Vismaya, who is known to be a writer and who has already published a book titled `Grains of Stardust`, will be looking to follow the footsteps of her brother Pranav Mohanlal, who has now established himself as a bankable actor in the Malayalam film industry.  

Anthony Perambavoor, whose production house Aashirvad Cinemas is producing the film, posted a note in Malayalam along with a photograph of him carrying Vismaya as a child. The powerful producer and actor Mohanlal are known to have been good friends for several years.

The ace producer, while playing on the title Thudakkam which means `Beginning`, gave beloved Maya Kutty his blessings and prayers and said that a great `beginning` lay ahead. "All the best, Maya Kutty!," he greeted her.

Director and actor Jude Anthany Joseph is known for having directed several critically acclaimed superhits including Ohm Shanthi Oshaana and 2018, which was also India`s official entry to the Oscars in 2024.

The film has triggered huge expectations among fans and film buffs as this film will mark the acting debut of director Lokesh Kanakaraj. 

A special promo for the film that was released on the occasion of Valentine`s Day this year gave away the fact that Lokesh Kanakaraj plays a character called Devadas in the film, while Wamiqa Gabbi plays a character called Chandra and actress Sanjana A K plays a character called Parvathi.

The video released was on similar lines to the title teaser of the film, which the makers released last year. The promo appeared to lend credibility to rumours that this film would be a gangster drama.

The promo starts off with Parvathi approaching a microphone but is unable to speak or sing. We then see Chandra putting on make up in what appears to be a house of ill repute. There are scenes that show Devadas and Parvathi having a conversation and Devadas consoling Chandra. The promo also has some grim visuals. Devadas is seen slitting the throat of an injured man and severing the head of another. The video ends with Devadas and Chandra getting away in a car.

The film is slated to hit screens this year. It has dialogues by Arun Matheswaran and Franklin Jacob with additional screenplay by Arun Ranjan.

Music for the film is by Anirudh and cinematography is by Mukesh G. Editing for the film is by G K Prasanna and art direction by Kannan S.

It may be recalled that sources had told IANS that work on the film was progressing at a brisk pace and the entire film was likely to be ready now.

The official X account of The Paradise released a statement that read, “Over the past few days, we’ve noticed several baseless rumours and irresponsible speculations being circulated about #TheParadise.” It clarified the rumours in multiple points. The post further stated, “The Paradise was planned with absolute clarity from day one, and the film is progressing exactly as intended. Over 100 shooting days have already been completed successfully, and the remaining schedule is happening as planned — without delays.”

The new date picked by the unit for the release thrusts The Paradise straight into a rare three-week festival wave. The first week gets a strong mid-week boost with Onam and Milad-un-Nabi, followed by Raksha Bandhan in the second weekend and Janmashtami in the third.

Salim Ahamed is a National-Award winning director

For the unaware, Salim Ahamed is best known for his Malayalam film Adaminte Makan Abu (Abu, Son of Adam), which won four National Film Awards and was India’s official entry to the Academy Awards.  Salim`s earlier films include `Pathemari`, `Kunjananthante Kada` and `And the Oscar Goes To…`.

Giving out details about `Left Over`, Salim Ahamed says, “Left Over comes from silence, memory and moral urgency. It carries pain without spectacle, dignity without explanation, and a shared human experience that transcends borders. I am grateful to introduce the film to the international industry with Newton Cinema.”

Newton Cinema has announced that Left Over’s world premiere plans will be announced in the coming weeks. 

Interestingly, the production house has made its Cannes market debut at Marché du Film with a screening of `Mayilaa` directed by Semmalar Annam, at Lérins Cinéma Club on May 12.

The production house`s Marché slate also includes `The Gambler`, directed by Prasanna Vithanage, written by Vithanage and Anushka Senanayake, and starring Roshan Mathew, Shweta Basu Prasad, Prakash Raj, Mahendra Perera and Lakshan Abeynayake. Cinematography for this film is by Rajeev Ravi, editing by A. Sreekar Prasad, music by K and sound design by Tapas Nayak.

However, Vijay’s personal life has also remained in the spotlight. His estranged wife Sangeetha Sornalingam and children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Saasha, were notably absent from the swearing-in ceremony. Reports of his ongoing divorce proceedings have also kept his family life in the public eye.

Amid the family drama making headlines, an old interview of Vijay discussing his son’s future in cinema has resurfaced online.

During the promotions of Beast in 2022, Vijay spoke to filmmaker Nelson Dilipkumar in an interview for Sun TV. During the conversation, he was asked whether his son Sanjay planned to enter films. Vijay made it clear that he never wanted to pressure his children into choosing a particular career.

When asked if Sanjay wanted to become an actor, Vijay replied, “I have no clue what’s in his mind.”

He added, “I would never do that. It is completely his interest. If he feels he needs my support, I will support him. They have full freedom to choose. I don’t command them, saying they have to do this or that.”

The actor also revealed that filmmakers had approached him about launching Sanjay in films. However, he said the final decision was always left to his son. “I tell him people are asking, but at the end of the day, it is his choice. He told me, ‘Please don’t disturb me for a couple of years. I don’t want this right now.’”

Vijay-Sangeetha divorce 

Vijay`s wife filed for divorce in February this year.  Reports related to the main petition claim that Sangeetha has cited allegations of infidelity and mental cruelty as key grounds for seeking the divorce. The petition states that she discovered in April 2021 that Vijay was allegedly involved in an "adulterous relationship" with an actress, which she claims caused emotional distress and a breakdown of marital trust.

The filing also alleges that Vijay continued to maintain an open association with the actress in public and on overseas trips, which the petitioner claims caused embarrassment and emotional hardship for her and their children.

Amid these claims, Vijay was spotted attending a wedding with actress Trisha Krishnan, with whom he is rumoured to have an affair. She was also present at his swearing-in ceremony. 

Suriya fan breaches security

At the event, an enthusiastic fan of Suriya broke security protocol and rushed onto the stage to meet the actor. But it was Suriya’s heartwarming gesture that became the highlight of the evening.

Several videos from the event have now gone viral on social media. In one of the clips, a young man can be seen running past security and heading straight towards Suriya on stage. The fan appeared eager to hug the actor and click a selfie with him.

While speaking about the team, Avika Gor shared heartfelt words for the director and technicians who stood strong despite personal struggles during the making of the project.

Talking about the director, Avika revealed that he continued working tirelessly on the film even while dealing with immense personal loss. “One by one, his parents passed away during the journey of this film. Still, he stayed committed to his work and gave everything to make this film a success. Wherever they are, I’m sure they are proud of him,” she shared emotionally.

Avika also praised the director’s clarity and precision, adding that watching the final print of the film completely blew her mind. “It never felt like his first film. Excited about joining the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe, he began shooting for Mahakali in May 2025. A source told mid-day, “Choosy as ever, Akshaye agreed to play Asura guru Shukracharya as he was intrigued by the role. In Hindu mythology, he was the revered teacher of the Asuras and advised them in their battles against the gods. His primary role was to revive the dead demons, while Maa Kali’s role was to destroy the demon army. That put them on opposite sides of the conflict. Shukracharya is considered a knowledgeable sage rather than inherently evil. He is a misunderstood character in Indian scriptures, and Akshaye loved that complexity.”

The unit shot an extensive schedule from February to April this year. Now, they are shooting the last leg in Kolkata. “On May 9, the team filmed near the Dakshineswar Temple. Principal photography will be completed by July,” added the source.

Vijay’s classmate criticises his claims

Manu took to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday to criticise Vijay’s first speech as the CM. He penned, “In his first speech as Tamil Nadu chief minister, Vijay said that he grew up in poverty, and that he even knows what hunger is. It`s bulls**t because he was my classmate in the third standard in Loyola School.”

He pointed out that Vijay’s father, SA Chandrasekhar, a notable filmmaker, opened doors for him in Kollywood, saying, “His father was a filmmaker who set up his son for a career in films. It is possible that, like most filmmakers, his father may have had periods of financial strife, but that`s not the same as Tamil-grade poverty. A lot of affluent boys confuse being broke with poverty. Two very different things.”

Manu is a former journalist and writer who also comes from a film family. His father, Joseph Madappally, helmed the Malayalam film Thoranam (1987). Manu`s 2010 novel Serious Men was adapted by Sudhir Mishra into a 2020 Netflix film of the same name starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui. He has also written the screenplay for Love Khichdi (2009) and created Decoupled (2021) starring R Madhavan and Surveen Chawla. His most recent work includes the 2025 non-fiction book Why the Poor Don`t Kill Us.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay`s first speech

Vijay, during his maiden address, said he was well aware of poverty and hunger. He said that he was the son of an ordinary assistant film director who aspired to succeed in cinema through hard work. “I know what poverty is and what hunger is. I do not have a royal ancestry. I am like you, I am one among you. I am like your son, like your brother,” said the newly elected Chief Minister.

He also called his appointment a new beginning and a new era of ‘real, secular, social justice’. He added, “As I have said before, I will not touch even a single paisa from the people’s money. It is not necessary for me either, and you know that very well. Vijay will not indulge in delinquency and will not allow others to do so either. It may be anyone, including those with me in my government, I will not allow.”

Mohanlal on Patriot criticism

Speaking to Galatta Plus, Mohanlal said, “Mixed reactions are coming in for the film. But I liked the movie. Very often, people evaluate a film by separating the character from the actor, and there is nothing we can do about that. When the story of this film was narrated to me, it felt like a different experience. That is why I agreed to do it.”

The actor also opened up about the unpredictability of cinema and explained, “When we make a film, it is impossible to predict how successful it will become. It is like a mystery formula. Even so, I approach every film with complete love and confidence. That is my job and also my social responsibility.”

Mohanlal on Drishyam success

Referring to Drishyam, Mohanlal said even that film’s success was unexpected. He shared, “Georgekutty and his family are something audiences all over the world are eagerly waiting to see. That is why we cannot take those characters lightly. We have to approach that film with great seriousness and honesty.”

The makers of Drishyam 3 recently unveiled the powerful and intriguing trailer. Directed by Jeethu Joseph, the film will finally reach cinema lovers in theatres on May 21. Along with Mohanlal, the project will also feature Meena as Rani George, Ansiba Hassan as Anju George, Esther Anil as Anumol “Anu” George, Asha Sharath as Geetha Prabhakar, and Murali Gopy as IG Thomas Bastin IPS, among others. The film focuses on what happens in Georgekutty’s life after four and a half years.

Mohanlal’s upcoming movies

Tamil superstar Rajinikanth will be back with the sequel to his hit film Jailer. Mohanlal, who appeared in a cameo role as Mathew in the 2023 film, will return for Jailer 2 as well.

Mohanlal is also once again joining hands with his friend and frequent collaborator Priyadarshan for the Hindi film Haiwan. The film also stars Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan and is touted to be a comedy of errors.

Jana Nayagan to release soon? 

Even as the film awaits release clearance, Vijay has now been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu following the state assembly elections. In his maiden election, he secured the people’s mandate, emerging as the single largest party in the state.

Now, Jana Nayagan producer K Venkat Narayana has shared an update on the film’s release. His remarks came shortly after Vijay took oath as Chief Minister on Sunday morning in Chennai.

Narayana was present at the oath-taking ceremony and spoke to reporters at the venue about the film’s release status. “We are waiting for the CBFC certificate. As soon as we get it, we will release the film,” Narayana said, congratulating Vijay on his political milestone.

“We are very happy. Congratulations to Vijay Sir on becoming the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. A new chapter begins. I am sure he will fulfil all his promises. Jana Nayagan will release as soon as we get the certificate,” he added.

While Jana Nayagan has not yet been released in theatres, the makers suffered a major setback last month when the film was leaked online. The breach left everyone shocked and furious. A few days later, the pirated version was reportedly telecast on a local cable channel in the state. On Thursday, the Madras High Court passed an interim order restraining cable operators and internet service providers from illegally broadcasting the film.

Initially, only a few clips surfaced online, but the situation quickly escalated, with larger portions, and in some cases, the full film, allegedly appearing on pirated platforms. This raised serious concerns about piracy and the vulnerability of unreleased content.

Following the leak, a police investigation reportedly found that a freelance editor hired for the project was behind it. The editor and multiple others allegedly involved in the case have since been arrested.

Telugu actor dies in road accident

Police said the accident took place late at night. Following the collision, authorities registered a case and shifted the bodies for post-mortem examination.

According to Adibatla Police, "This incident happened last night, after their car collided with a truck at Exit No. 12 on the ORR."

"We have registered a case, shifted the bodies of the deceased for post-mortem examination, and are investigating the matter," the Adibatla Police added.

The identity of the second deceased person has not been officially disclosed so far.

Police are continuing their investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances leading to the crash.

Bharath Kanth`s most notable works included the 2021 film Gramam and the 2024 film Tenant, where he played a lead role. He also appeared in web series such as Geethanjali and Parvathi Parameshwarlu.

Recent road accidents 

The road accident cases have seen a surge in recent weeks. Last week alone, the industry mourned the loss of Malayalam film actor Santhosh Nair and veteran Tamil producer RB Choudary. Both celebrities died in road accident in Kerala and Rajasthan, respectively. 

Nair was travelling in a car in Enathu in the Pathanamthitta district in Kerala. A lorry collided with his car resulting in the actor`s demise. He was last seen in the Malayalam hit film Bharatanatyam 2: Mohiniattam. 

RB Choudary passed away in a road accident in Udaipur, Rajasthan last week. He worked in several film industries, including Tamil and Telugu. He also worked on a few films in Malayalam and Hindi. He founded the production company Super Good Films.

Choudary originally hailed from a Rajasthani family. Before stepping into film production, he worked in the steel, exports, and jewellery industries. He started his career as a producer in the Malayalam film industry and produced a few films under the Super banner.

The 43-year-old actress, on Monday, shared a picture of herself looking every inch gorgeous in an aqua-blue silk saree, which seems to be made of a silk blend. The saree has gold zari border running along the edges and pallu.

Vijay’s party emerged as the single largest party after it secured 108 seats in the recently conducted Tamil Nadu assembly elections. With its victory, TVK has ended the alternating rule of the State’s two dominant Dravidian parties, DMK and AIADMK.

The Governor has also directed Mr. Vijay to seek a vote of confidence in the Assembly on or before May 13, 2026.

The film has triggered huge excitement among fans and filmbuffs. Excitement about the film doubled after the makers released a teaser on the occasion of Suriya`s birthday last year.

The teaser that was released begins with the deity of Karuppu being worshipped with chilli powder even as a voice says, "It`s not a calm deity that you worship with grace. If you pray with sincerity and offer chillies, it`s a fierce deity that will deliver instant justice."

We then get introduced to Suriya`s character in the film. We get to know he plays a lawyer called Saravanan and that he has another name- Karuppu as well.

The rest of the teaser shows that the film will be a proper commercial entertainer with a lot of action sequences in it. Suriya is also seen delivering several punch lines in the film. For instance, Suriya says, " Blast! My brother, this is our time, I`m gonna give you all a whacking."

Actress Trisha plays the female lead in this film, which will also feature Malayalam actors Indrans, Sshivada, Swasika and Tamil actors Yogi Babu and cinematographer and actor Natty in pivotal roles.

Vijay, in his first address as Chief Minister, thanked the people of Tamil Nadu and called for a "new era" of governance.

"Come, let all of us together give Tamil Nadu a fresh new government. This is a new beginning, the start of a new era of secular, social justice. I am not some divine messenger or prophet. I am just an ordinary human being living a normal life. I will never deceive you with false promises. I will only promise what is possible," he said.

Vijay becomes the new CM of Tamil Nadu

Popularly known as “Thalapathy,” Vijay’s political rise has been closely followed ever since he launched Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Jeethu Joseph on criticism of Drishyam execution

Over the years, Jeethu`s films have sparked discussions about their visual presentation. Viewers have questioned the technical quality, often comparing it to television-style execution. Despite the criticism, the director has maintained his approach rooted in his creative preferences.

During a recent interaction with The New Indian Express, Jeethu Joseph explained, “In most films today, you can see a kind of colourful lighting style. When it comes to my films, that difference is not due to any fault of my team. It is because I prefer things to look more realistic." He also noted the influence of negative comments online, saying, "I have personally seen posts targeting certain individuals. There are some people who consistently write negative comments for every film."

No more Drishyam

In an interaction with Silly Monk Malayalam, Jeethu Joseph confirmed that Mohanlal`s Drishyam 3 will mark the end of the franchise. The director revealed that he has no plans to continue the series beyond the upcoming instalment. “I have not even thought of it in my dreams. I am trying to end this because even people are asking me to stop it. That’s why I am thinking this way,” he said.

Taking to his Instagram page, director Buchi Babu Sana shared the video and said, "The BOSS and my GURU on sets of Peddi... It’s one of the best memories. And yes...I’ve built a bit of muscle with my Peddi’s inspiration. chiranjeevikonidela Sir alwaysramcharan Sir aryasukku Sir."

The video released shows Chiranjeevi arriving at the sets of Peddi and having fun with the unit there. The clip has visuals of Chiranjeevi sharing a lighter moment with director Buchi Babu Sana, director Sukumar, cameraman Rathnavelu and his son and actor Ram Charan. At one point, directors Buchi Babu Sana, Sukumar and actor Ram Charan flex their biceps even as Chiranjeevi shoots a video and Ram Charan jokingly says, "His (Buchi Babu Sana`s) muscles are bigger."

For the unaware, the film`s makers had announced on May 1 that shooting for the much awaited film had been wrapped.

Taking to his X timeline in the early hours of May 1, cinematographer Rathnavelu wrote, "It’s a wrap for Mega power star AlwaysRamCharan ! Peddi -A Memorable journey. Working with RC has been truly special. A powerhouse performer on screen and a wonderful friend off it. Grateful for the memories we’ve created together. BuchiBabuSana arrahman vriddhicinemas."

On his Instagram page, he wrote, "Working with Ram Charan has been nothing short of inspiring — not just a phenomenal actor who brings fire and finesse to every frame, but also a genuinely warm and a truly reliable friend off screen. On this last day of shoot with him , I carry back not just great visuals, but great memories. Here’s to the magic we created together — and to many more journeys ahead."

IANS had reported on April 29 that the unit was in the process of shooting the last song for the film. Sources close to the unit of the film had informed IANS that the number would be a sensational special song featuring Ram Charan. They had also gone on to claim that the song, which was shot in Hyderabad, would contain a surprise element for audiences.

A source had said, "The tune, the dance, the grandeur set and a surprise in it will make the audience go berserk. The song, that has been set to tune by A R Rahman, will be another sure-shot chartbuster." Peddi, which has triggered huge excitement among fans and film buffs, has been in the limelight right from the time it was first announced.

The film, which is slated to hit screens on June 4, brings together a strong cast with Janhvi Kapoor playing the leading lady. Senior actors Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu, and Boman Irani will all be seen playing important parts in this film.

On the technical side, the movie is backed by some of the best in the industry. R Rathnavelu is handling the camera work, Navin Nooli is in charge of editing, and Avinash Kolla has designed the film’s massive and detailed sets.
