When Rubina was told only one child would survive

Recalling those days, the actress shared how she was advised to keep her pregnancy news under wraps. “I was clearly told during my first scan that I had a twin pregnancy and there were chances that only one would survive. It was hard-hitting every single day. Living under that stress continuously for three months was difficult.”

The actress also opened up about the painful realities of breastfeeding. “So, when you start feeding your child, it’s nature’s way of releasing milk as direct nutrition. In my case, with twins, I had to feed them one after the other in short gaps. Sometimes the milk wouldn’t be produced again quickly, which led to lumps and coagulation. I could feel lumps everywhere, and massaging them was extremely painful—I have cried while getting them massaged because I couldn’t even touch them myself.”

Rubina added, “Then came a time when I had to step out for film promotions. I was away from my daughters for three days, and during that time my chest had swollen so much because I couldn’t express the milk. At night, I would wake up just to cry. No one told me about this.”

Rubina on dealing with judgments

The actress also stressed the importance of being financially independent even after having kids. She also opened up about dealing with judgments and remarked, “I don’t take anybody’s advice on how I have to raise my children. It is between me and my husband. If we are aligned, it doesn’t matter what people say.”

She also reflected on how motherhood changes industry perception of women. “I will be very honest, people see things differently. Once you become a mother, age shows on your face, wrinkles appear, and age accelerates after having children. But I have given birth to two kids.”

Reflecting on the actresses who stepped into Sonu’s shoes over the years, Sonalika said, “All four girls were superb. For us, what happens is the character. She further explained that despite cast changes, Sonu’s place in the Bhide family has remained emotionally intact. “It doesn`t matter to you when it comes to on-screen, who came and who left. For you, it is Sonu. For you, it is a character. It is your daughter. You have to treat her accordingly. So, there is no difference on-screen for us, the artists,” she shared.

The actress also highlighted how audiences have always loved the warmth shared between Bhide, Madhvi and Sonu. “A lot of people liked our chemistry as well. The chemistry of Bhide and Madhavi, people liked it a lot. When Sonu has to come in that, a lot of people like the family of the three of us,” she said.

Describing Sonu’s personality in the show, Sonalika added, “She is a girl, she is cute. She is shy, like Bhide must have taught her. Madhavi has given her a little limit. She has given her a little freedom. But still, she is in Papa’s case. So, she has her own limitations.”

Sonalika also credited the writers and producers for maintaining consistency in the character despite multiple replacements. “According to that, everything was maintained. The producer and the writers also have a lot of work. So, they also have to maintain it. It is everybody’s responsibility,” she explained.

Talking about actors stepping into an established role, the actress noted that while new performers should not imitate previous portrayals, they must understand the soul of the character. “If someone is new, they also have to take care of the responsibility. Whatever they did earlier, they don`t have to copy it. But they have to take care of the character,” she said.

Praising all the actresses who played Sonu, including current actor Khushi Mali, Sonalika concluded, “I think all three of them handled it very well. Everybody was good and Khushi is also doing great.”

Having already started shooting for the show, Ahuja tells mid-day her decision stems from a desire to create her own identity. “My honourable husband Govinda told me, ‘Go ahead and work. But don’t use my name to get ahead in life.’ I want to stand on my own feet without anyone’s support.”

Despite competing with several popular faces, Ahuja says she feels no pressure. “I don’t find anything challenging in life. Whatever I do I make sure it’s top notch,” she says. Asked whether she is open to more reality shows, Ahuja replies in her trademark candid style, “I have understood in the last two years that money is important, not love. Pyaar karke dekhliya 40 saal. Now, whatever work I will do, I will do it for money. So, I am open to doing any kind of show.”

On breaking stereotypes as mother

“As growing up as a little girl, I knew I always wanted to be a mom, I`ve always had a very maternal instinct,” she said. However, life took unexpected turns when she got divorced at 30, moved countries, and began her spoken word poetry career. “Everyone around me was like, okay, this was the time for you to settle down and have a baby. And what are you doing? There are so many upheavals happening in your life,” she recalled.

Priya explained that instead of rushing into motherhood, she chose to focus on healing herself emotionally. “I always tell people that I gave birth to poetry at that time,” she said, adding that her 30s became a period of self-discovery. “I wanted to really heal myself as a person before bringing another child into this world. The poet emphasized that she never wanted motherhood to become a way to fix a relationship. “I didn`t want to be one of those moms who`s having a child to save her marriage,” she said. “I wanted a child to come into a very healthy relationship with a mom who is completely healed from all of her traumas.”

Priya revealed that she embraced motherhood in her late 30s despite societal pressure. “One of the first stereotypes I broke was that I had my baby way later in life,” she shared. “For me, the timing was right. I was physically, emotionally, financially, and even spiritually aligned for motherhood.”

The actress-poet also spoke about returning to work shortly after childbirth and the criticism she faced online. Priya revealed that she resumed performing poetry just 21 days after giving birth. “I put the baby to sleep, I pumped breast milk, I told my mother and my nanny and my husband that if he wakes up, give him this. And I quickly performed at BKC at Social Nation for 15 minutes,” she shared.

While many mothers praised her decision, others questioned it. “Especially men messaged me saying, ‘Shouldn`t you be resting at home right now? Shouldn`t you be with your baby right now?’” she recalled. However, Priya believes every mother’s journey deserves respect. “If someone wants to be at home for 40 days or for 40 months or for 40 years, that’s absolutely okay. But if someone wants to get back into things and find themselves again other than motherhood, we should be respectful of that as well.”

Priya also highlighted the importance of equal parenting in her marriage with husband Karan Bakshi. “Karan and I are 50-50 partners in everything in our life,” she said. “The only thing that he could not do was breastfeed. Everything else he could do.”

However, advice from a friend changed her perspective. “She said it is so good for her daughter to learn that it is not just mama who cares for me. Emphasising that parenting comes with mistakes and learning, she added, “Parents are not gods. They make mistakes too. Sitting like a deity waiting for your child to come back doesn`t work. You have to go to them.”

During a heartfelt moment on the show, he shares, “Main kaafi hadh tak khud ko gunehagaar samajhta hoon, kyunki mummy ko jo symptoms hue thein, tab mein samajh nahi paaya." (I blame myself to a large extent because when my mother started showing those symptoms, I did not understand what was happening.)

For the uninitiated, Rajeev Khandelwal`s mother passed away in 2018 following a one and a half year battle with ovarian cancer.

The actor had taken to his social media account to inform his fans about the unfortunate demise of his mother back in 2018.

He wrote, “My mom passed away day before yesterday after a year n a half long fight with cancer. We fought together, we hoped together but we couldn’t come out of it together. I and my family are fine and have come to terms wth it. She now lives within me.”

Rajeev urges all women to get tested for cancer

On the same episode, Rajeev also pointed out common ovarian cancer symptoms and urged all the women watching to immediately get tested if they experience them.

Now, producer Ekta Kapoor has reacted to the controversy and stood firmly by the show’s editor.

Ektaa recently shared a video with her long-time editor, Vicky, and said, “Meet Vicky ji. Inke blue screen ke charche poore Bombay mein hain abhi (His blue screen is being talked about all over Bombay right now). I can change a lover, but I can’t change Vicky ji from my life.”

She added, “Even if I make 50 shows, Vicky ji will have a hand in all of them. He is the best editor in the country. Apologise to this man- he’s the best in the business. Be it Naagin or Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, this man has edited every show of ours for 20 years.”

Ektaa further said, “Directors change, writers change, but for us there’s only one man who does all our work—Vicky ji. Even if we have 50 shows, there’s only one editor. Maybe that’s why we gave him too much work. We keep him awake the whole night. He is the best.”

Sunita Ahuja speaks about her reunion with Krushna Abhishek and Kashmera Shah after long 14 years. She also details about her emotional moment when she met her grandchildren for the first time. She shared, "I finally reunited with Krushna and Kashmera. Vipul came to me twice, thrice inviting me to the show. I had spoken to Kashmera and Krushna earlier, but then I decided to do a surprise appearance, they were not informed that I was going. It was really nice to see them, they are my kids only. And it has been 14 years to the rift. I didn`t want to keep this burden in my heart so I decided to forgive them. I was so happy to see my grandchildren for the first time. They are so sweet and my heart was so happy seeing how they look like me. They are so good looking and god bless them."

When asked about the former differences which led to Krushna not performing at Kapil Sharma`s show, she said, "Yes, in the past I was quite angry and that is why there were differences during Kapil`s show. Those were the times where I was actually hurt but now I have put it all in past. All I want to do is embrace my kids, love my grandchildren, love Kashmera and Krushna. I want this work together. And we enjoyed thoroughly shooting together on Laughter Chefs. I wish lots and lots of love and success to Krushna and Kashmera and all the love for my grandchildren."
