Nine undertrials in the custody of the Nalasopara police are undergoing treatment for suspected food poisoning at the civic hospital, cops said on Wednesday. All of them are out of danger, they added. An investigation is underway to find out the cause of the illness.
Around 2.30 pm on Tuesday, around 10-12 undertrials were served rice and dal for lunch. A little later, some of them complained of nausea. The Nalasopara cops said the food was served from the government-approved canteen. Senior Inspector Vilas Supe of Nalasopara police station told mid-day, "Nine people are being treated for food poisoning. After lunch on Tuesday, two accused started vomiting and later seven others fell ill.
