Senior Inspector of MRA Marg Police Station, Sanjeev Kokil, who provided police protection to the BMC during the Musafirkhana illegal cloth shop clean-up drive in October, is at it again. This time around, Kokil's pitching to clean up his workplace. In a letter to Mumbai Commissioner Sanjeev Dayal, Kokil accused three Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) of owning illegal cloth shops in Musafirkhana in Fort. The shops were razed in the recent BMC demolition drive.

On December 13, Kokil addressed a letter to Dayal (Sunday MiD DAY has a copy) where he mentioned the names of the three ACPs. In the letter, Kokil also sought permission to register a First Information Report (FIR) against Anil Mahabole, ACP Azad Maidan division and police inspector Kalpana Pawar of MRA Marg police station.
Kokil accused Mahabole assisted by Pawar, of falsely trying to implicate him in an extortion case after he assisted in the BMC demolition drive.

Of the three ACPs mentioned in Kokil's letter, one is a retired officer and the other two are posted at different sites. The illegal stalls were allegedly protected by the three ACPs and 22 members associated with the underworld and politicians. These individuals had been collecting Rs 60 lakh per month from over 500 stall owners as protection money.

On June 17, 2010 Kokil had written letter to Dayal informing him that a minister, an MLA and some politicians were looking to transfer him. All names mentioned in the letter were working with the ACPs, so that the allegedly corrupt cops could keep their illegal cloth stalls open.u00a0

The BMC conducted a demolition drive for the fifth time in Musafirkhana with Kokil providing police protection.
When asked to comment Kokil told Sunday MiD DAY, "I am on sick leave and do not want to comment on it now."

According to Kokil's complaint Mahabole is infamous for having links with underworld. He was suspended from the police department in year 2007 with an 'adverse' report marked against his name.

Commenting on Kokil's letter, Commissioner Dayal said, "Hum Kar lenge." Although Dayal laughed off the question on three ACPs owning illegal stalls in Musafirkhana without further comment.

Kokil's Clean Record
In 1996, Kokil refused a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from an accused involved in a passport forgery case and ACB arrested the accused.

In 2000, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested IPS AK Jain, then additional commissioner (central region) for having demanded Rs 5 lakh for favouring him in a departmental inquiry, based on a complaint by Kokil.
